With over 75 instruments and sound sources plus years in the making, Terra Incognita is by far the most ambitious sample library from Marcos Ciscar Sampled Instruments. Here, you enter a world of its own with a blend of both rare and more traditional instruments all performed with a pre-hispanic touch inspired by ancient civilizations and the rainforest. Native flutes, world music instruments, stones, drums, human voices, ambient synths and ethereal sounds complemented with nature sounds from French Guiana, Costa Rica and Europe. Many of the instruments here are rare, hand built and not often sampled, if at all. Well, first and foremost it is a sound world that I’ve created. In the beginning, it was an unconscious process. I collected and sampled sounds that I liked. Then, it turned into both an album project and the development of a sample library. A sound collection that I intend to expand and develop further on in the future. Both projects fertilize each other. Some sounds were recorded with both projects in mind. Others were taken out from the album and developed into samples. Yet others started out as samples being used on the album.

Cello Ibrida contains different types of sampling and sound design techniques inside one advanced GUI. The concept relies on not focusing on a single traditional library concept but several that when combined will bring out modern sounds that retain an organic sound. A cello section was recorded to do “texture” articulations and multisample. From there we edited and processed a variety of sound design style patches to create low pulses, hybrid plucks, pads and sfx. Our matrix GUI contains a two layer system each with its own effects chain, LFOs, Sequencer and gate. But the magic happens in the performance matrix page where two macros, two envelope sequencers and velocity source modulators can be individually assigned to different master effects, chord maker and a detuner. This enables even the simplest of sounds to be continuously modulated and ever changing. Additionally, we added CC assignable inputs for crossfade, macro1/2 and LFO rate/amount to let composers modulate all these parameters in real time and thus, creating a great performance sound design instrument.

REiMAGiNE THE ViOLiN

Created for both musical use and sound design, Violence features an unprecedented deconstruction of a solo violin recorded from numerous angles: bowed, scraped, hit, plucked, played with mallets, chopsticks, guitar picks, and wet fingers. Then the sound design was repitched, layered, and post-processed through an array of unusual tools to produce sounds unlike any found in other virtual instruments. More than eighty unique patches were designed, each with a custom set of scripted knobs and controls all conveniently organized into four categories of sounds: Drum Kits, Melodic, Pads and Sound Effects, and Tempo-Synced. The inspiration for Violence came from the influential American composer John Cage, whose extensive experiments with prepared piano yielded new timbres and effects. What Cage did on the piano, Violence brings to the violin: a new and unorthodox approach to a traditional instrument, yielding amazing and fresh new instruments, textures, and sound design elements. Violence combines physical alterations with digital manipulations for a sound that straddles acoustic and electronic realms.
