Pipa is a singing vocal synth with a unique and different sound. It is inspired by the expression and flexibility of the human voice, but does not aim to cover all the aspects of an actual voice. Instead, it focuses on an organic and musical sound where the user has the possibility to control formants and dynamics seamlessly. The synth engine is a crossover between a wavetable- and a granulating synthesizer, which results in a very expressive and playable instrument. Instead of using ordinary samples or processing oscillators with formant filters, Pipa uses a large database of thousands of wavetables extracted from real vocal samples. The advantage of the technique being used is that it’s possible to seamlessly morph between wavetables with proper phase alignment. This enables Pipa to continuously make transitions between pitch, formants and dynamics, which is very useful in a musical context.

SCAF consists of a filter and an amplifier section. Both can be controlled by any track in your project. The routing between the tracks is done via internal host-independent side chains. The sections are independent so the filter’s cutoff frequency might follow the volume envelope of one track’s signal while an other track conducts the amplifier. You set the start and endpoints for gain and cutoff frequency. So the amp section can work in compressing or expanding mode. And the filter can sweep from low to high frequencies or vice versa while the controlling signals volume rises from zero to full scale.

The BFS-1 is a VST emulation of the famous Bode frequency shifter.

The original unit was available as an expensive module for the Moog™ modular system. The frequency shifter is not a pitch shifter, which changes frequencies by a multiplikation. Instead it shifts all frequencies/harmonics by adding a fixed amount. The sound reminds to a ring modulator, but unlike this, it is possible to get the upshifted and downshifted signal seperately. Unlike a ring modulator, the frequency shifter is also capable of changing the signal by a low amount, e.g. 1 Hz, to obtain effects known as “Barberpole flanging”.This plugin has some additional features like delays for each section, an LFO (all host synced), an envelope with MIDI trigger and an envelope follower to modulate shift and/or volume. Included is a version with a smaller GUI for laptops and an extra version with 2x oversampling.
