The Reason Studios Reason 11 is the 2019 release of the ever popular Digital Audio Workstation from the former Propellerhead Software. This Audio Creation/Editing program has a powerful processing engine, a host of Instruments and Effects and is presented in 3x versions (Intro, Standard and Suite), making Reason 11 an excellent choice regardless of the user’s needs. Alongside the stand-alone DAW, Reason 11 can optionally be used as the Reason Rack Plug-In, a VST3 Plug-In format which allows for the use of Reason in other Digital Audio Workstations. Mikron Delay has been inspired by the classic bucket brigade delays and tape delays of the past. We haven’t tried to emulate one of those classics in particular, but tried to capture the essentials of these devices that make them sound so incredibly fantastic. Instead of making the perfect emulation of one specific device that we admire, we made a ‘flexible vintage delay’: to give you the opportunity to use all the cool ‘tricks’ of those old machines to create your own old school tape or bucket brigade delay.

Mikron Orbiter was modeled after the effects of the Eminent 310 Unique electronic organ: chorus, tremolo and ensemble. Of which the ensemble effect is by far the most famous, in large part because it is not only the Eminent Unique that uses it. The strings of the Eminent organ were such a hit with musicians at the time that the ensemble section was reused to form the core of the Solina String Ensemble (rebranded in the United States as the ARP String Ensemble). A smart move. This affordable and easily to transport synthesizer became so popular that it was used by almost every band in the seventies, from Pink Floyd to Herbie Hancock. And not just the seventies, in later decades it can be also heard on many albums. The Cure, Kim Wilde, Abba, Brian Eno, Air and Gorillaz are just a few of its notable users.

Mikron Phaser was modeled after the legendary Small Stone Phaser, a stomp box effect designed by one of our all-time heroes: David Cockerell. The effect was made particularly famous by the French composer Jean Michel Jarre who used it extensively on his recordings as a synthesizer effect. But of course it was used by countless legendary bands on guitar as well. The Police, Led Zeppelin, do we need say more? If you ask us, Small Stone Phaser is without doubt the best phaser ever made. It has a smooth, vibrant seventies sound that will never grow old, and is equally suited for guitar and synthesizer, and let’s not forget the bass. While we tried to replicate the original sound of Small Stone Phaser as accurately as possible, we added a few modern details as well. First of all, it’s stereo. Secondly you can set not only the LFO rate and the ‘color’ of the phaser, but also adapt the center frequency, the degrees that the LFO’s will be out of phase, and how much the pitch will be modulated up and down. And finally the bass and treble knobs are a nice addition that can help sometimes to get the sound ‘just right’, to let it fit a little better in the mix.

Mikron Crusher gives you an easy way to add a little of the charm of the samplers from the 80s by reducing bit depth and sample rate. ‘Wabi-sabi’ as the Japanese call it: a small imperfection will make something much more interesting. Or use it to destroy your sound completely, if that’s more your cup of tea. Destruction can be definitively constructive, we would say. The controls are simple, the algorithm behind it isn’t.

Mikron Cascade is the perfect tool to create atmospheric, ambient and drone soundscapes. It diffuses any sound input into a lively, lush, warm ‘sound cloud’. The fine-tuned delay models are specifically designed to create organic cinematic atmospheres. A little detuning of the source material can build up interesting tensions. Play around with the density setting to go from distinct reflections to colored noise. Or freeze the input to build up resonating sounds. Mikron Cascade has been originally developed as a sound effect for the Cascade synthesizer. Thanks to its complex delay network a sound run through Mikron Cascade can develop over time, adding extra dimensions to it. Which makes it the ideal plugin for those who are looking for a high quality ambient reverb, but one with far more complexity in it than usual.
