MrRay73 Mark II is a digital simulation of the famous american electro-mechanical piano of the seventies, invented during World War II by a music teacher, Harold B. Rhodes (1910 – 2000), and widely used in almost all musical genres ranging from soul/black music to jazz, blues, modern and pop. MyDrumset was made as a test to see if I could make such a complex drum plugin. The recording of the drums was done very quickly with only me on everything from drumming to engineering. As you can imagine that is not a perfect way to record a drum kit and if you add the fact that the drums weren’t tuned, one of the cymbals had a crack in it, the heads were old and I did everything in about 2 hours, it’s nothing even close to the sound of the Drummix line of plugins. Still, I released it as a public beta just for fun and the response has been marvellous. Not only did this plugin beat two of the well-known brands in an anonymous poll, but it also got raving user reviews and was even reviewed in Sound on Sound!

We’ve all had the experience of mixing a kick drum that just didn’t have quite the oomph it needed. You can try EQing it, but that just seems to make it flabby and loose. Sometimes you need a little extra beef that you just can’t extract out of the kick drum itself. You can replace it with samples, but sometimes that alters the sound too much. Little Foot lets you add anything from subtle to extreme low end to your kick drum without compromising the original sound. It does this by triggering a low frequency sine wave that plays along with your original kick drum. You can control how deep and how hard this sine wave triggers, and how long it sustains. You can even “tune” your kick drum to match the key of the song. With Little Foot, we focused on an interface that lets you dial in your sound as quickly as possible without having to worry about a pile of other features.
