The Tape machines used: Ampex valve 1/2 inch 2 track, Otari MX5050 1/4 inch 2 track, Teac A-350 Cassette Deck and the Hitachi 3 head Cassette deck. Plus a bonus set of Rom based TR-808 sounds also recorded on tape.
Tape is back! In “UAD Ampex ATR-102 Explained,” studio guru Brock Jon gets inside the UAD plug-in recreation of the Ampex ATR-102 Mastering Tape Recorder and shows you how to get that highly desirable “tape sound” on your tracks! Beginning with an introduction to the Ampex ATR-102 tape machine and its place in music history, Brock familiarizes you with the Primary Controls of the plug-in. From there, he explains the secondary controls that let you go deeper under the hood and really customize the tape simulation to your needs. Next, for those who really like to get advanced, Brock covers manually calibrating the ATR-102 simulation for the most exact settings available. Continuing on, Brock shows you how to apply the ATR-102 to the song “Waiting Out My Time in Richmond” by Dave Keats. Brock then shows you how to apply the ATR-102 to the Drum tracks and open up and fill out the sound. Then you’ll see the ATR-102 applied to the Bass Guitar, enhancing the low end.
The VTM-M2 is the result of 5+ years of research and design. It stands for “Vintage Tape Machine” and we be believe that it defines a new level of authenticity in plug-in technology. It is based upon an original concept developed by Michael Angel of CDSoundMaster called “Virtual Interactive Signal Chain Technology”, and has been brilliantly executed in code by Michael Heiler. This unique cooperation has led to this special line of products developed for CDSoundMaster by “MX2” or ‘Michael Times Two’. The VTM-M2 reproduces the unique character of reel to reel tape machines for use on all aspects of recording, mixing, and mastering. It can be used on every track of a multi-track project, on a single instance of a final mix or master, on group buss duties, and any combination of the above. It has two completely independent operating modes, calibrated for Low and High calibrated tape settings. This provides a full range of use from subtle, clean response to higher gain, deeper harmonic distortion and compression, giving the user every desired response of a real tape machine without alteration to the source’s frequency range. It contains advanced multiple operations yet requires very few parameters for operation. It uses minimal system resources and is ideal for multiple instances and use on every track in dense multi-track session projects
Attack of the Tape: Retrosonic is a creatively crafted drum sample kit in style of Tape Distortion and Bitcrushed drum samples. We used Tape Distortion VST emulation, Filters, Compressors, Bitcrushers and layering to create some truly unique punchy drums.
