Harness the power of FM synthesis and take your sound design to a whole new dimension. Get the edge that’ll truly make your tracks stand out. Learn to make the world’s most advanced synths do your bidding. We chose Dan Larsson to host this masterclass because he specializes in FM synthesis, specifically. He’s a stone-cold FM guru, on the cutting-edge of current genres and emerging production styles.
Do you think FM synthesis is too complex and confusing to use? You won’t anymore after watching this course by artist and trainer. Add FM synthesis to your sound designer’s toolkit now! FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis always had a reputation of being challenging to program, but once you learn it, it’s a very rewarding synthesis method for sound designers and musicians. The most popular hardware FM synth is the vintage Yamaha DX7, but nowadays FM is available in a variety of software instruments. Thankfully it’s much easier to program on a big computer screen than on a tiny DX7 16 x 2 LCD display! With its soft synth shootout approach, this course explores the creative possibilities offered by FM synthesis. FM synthesis is very different from more traditional synthesis methods, so that’s why Rishabh starts the course by diving into some important FM synthesis theory. Operators, carriers and modulators are clearly demonstrated using Reaktor Blocks.
Let’s be real: Reaktor can be intimidating at first glance. But behind the complexity is an incredibly powerful modular synthesis environment that can create anything from synthesizers, grooveboxes, and sequencers to sample transformers, sound generators, and effects. In Reaktor Modular Synthesis with David Earl, you’ll learn how to tweak Reaktor’s 70+ included instruments and make your own from scratch. David is Native Instrument’s product specialist and he knows the software inside and out.
Experience The Gamut Of Professional Sound Design Techniques From Analog Synthesis To Advanced Sampling And Digital Signal Processing. This course is SLAM Academy’s introductory offer for people who want their music to stand on its own. In Sound Design 101, we’ll uncover each of the main elements of what it takes to be a cutting-edge electronic sound designer. After an explanation of analog synthesis, we’ll feature demonstrations of techniques and tools for FM, granular, wavetable, physical modeling, multi-sampling, and signal processing. Students can expect personalized technique demonstrations from Ableton Live, Max for Live, U-He Instruments, Applied Acoustics Systems, Glitchmachines, Native Instruments Systems, and Eurorack Modular Synthesizer components.
In this class, I will go over the basics of making a ‘progressive house pluck’ used by EDM artists, such as Deadmau5. You will learn how to create the sound, write the midi notes, and use automation to create a rise effect. All that is needed is a Digital Audio Work Station (DAW) and a synthesizer. For this class, I used Ableton Live 9 as my DAW as my synthesizer. However, almost any DAW and synthesizer will work. The class project will be a short track you made using your own unique modification of the sound and writing your own midi notes and automation.
