AraldFX offers a drum machine that takes its inspiration from many sources. It’s been said that old is the new new. This is especially true in the music industry, where instrument manufacturers indulge their nostalgic instincts with a steady stream of retro-inspired gear. While much of the emulative attention has been focused on old analogue synths and tube-laden outboard processors, there’s been no small demand for vintage drum machines. Indeed, the trusty Roland TR-808 may well have been the first ‘chic antique’ on the second-hand music tech market, while its successor, the TR-909, is equally desired, particularly by dance producers. Unfortunately, vintage instruments command lofty prices and an endless supply of patience. This being the case, drum synths (both hard and soft) have undergone a sort of resurrection in recent years.
Introducing reMIDI 2, the follow up to reMIDI that allows you to take MIDI sampling to the next level with its new features. reMIDI 2 is a MIDI effect plugin that samples musical notes from MIDI files that allows you to quickly find, chop, key shift and time-stretch samples and map them to a controller. reMIDI 2 is a plugin instrument capable of outputting MIDI as well as audio. A simple sine wave synth sound is built in for scratch work, so you can quickly find a loop for export as a MIDI file entirely within it.
Mix translation has become even more of a moving target than ever, now that music is consumed on earbuds, headphones, iPhones, in cars, and desktop computer speakers—but rarely on large stereo speakers. Mix engineers are aware that they should probably mix on earbuds and tiny speakers, but who can spend hours listening to a mix played back on speakers the size of a nickel? At the end of the day, due to the limitations of current playback media, you hear music in mono far more than you think. For example, music from streaming services isn’t always played back in true stereo. Music piped into an elevator, supermarket, doctor’s office, shopping mall, PA system, or theme park is heard in mono. If only there was an easy way to reference a mix in mono and anticipate how playback will sound in these myriad environments. There is, it’s called Panipulator 2 and it’s a free gift from Boz.
