This is an EBX just as much for acoustic pop and singer-songwriter as it’s one for indie rock, new wave or goth. If you’re on the look for an instrument that has thud, thump and earthy vibes at the same time as it’s articulate, focused and piercingly direct enough to stand its own in a dense rock mix, this may be your new go-to. Based on a short-scale and semi-hollow electric bass from 1967, this EBX features a rare and unique-sounding instrument. With its semi-hollow body construction but solid tone, this is a bass that has that best-of-both-worlds quality to it. It’s got a tonal range that encompasses all the electric twang, grit and dirt at the same time as it’s got all the warm, swampy, bluesy and almost acoustic-sounding low end. To add, it was recorded with half-round strings, which even further enhances all of these qualities. In addition to the instrument itself, this EBX also includes a broad selection of classic-to-modern-sounding presets as well as a basic collection of basslines tailored for the different styles in which this instrument truly shines. If you’re looking for big, warm and low-end-heavy tones, this guitar-sized, 20-fret-short-scale and semi-hollow wonder of a bass couldn’t be a more rock solid choice.

Sumu breaks completely new ground in software synthesis, combining additive resynthesis with FM and vector field spatialization. Its collection of ten modules, designed around a unique multi-channel patcher, offer musical possibilities not found in any other instrument. In Sumu, sampled sounds are represented as collections of up to 64 bandwidth-enhanced partials, each with a frequency, volume, and noisiness that can change over time. This representation of sound makes all kinds of creative changes possible, from natural-sounding time stretching to exotic timbral manipulations. Using the central multi-channel patcher, each partial in a sound can be manipulated independently in a way that feels more like playing than programming. Pick a few harmonics and frequency-modulate them? No problem. Delay each partial according to its frequency? Sure. Sumu enables precise and careful changes in space and time, or wild chaotic ones. Take a sample, choose a few partials, and place them somewhere else in the sound field. Or explode everything and stir it into a whirlwind of doppler shifted chorus as each partial zooms around on its own path.

15 individual instruments, all captured from the classic Mellotron keyboard heard on hits by anything from the Beatles to the Moody Blues and King Crimson. EZkeys Mellotoon is based on the Mellotron keyboard introduced in the early 1960s. This unique instrument was the first of its kind to include samples of real instruments, but as opposed to the modern-day digital sampler, the Mellotron pulled them off a magnetic tape loop that ran inside the keyboard. It came with various sounds for piano, strings, flutes, brass and is likely best described as the first-ever “band in a box”. Naturally, it was a revelation from the get-go. Early adopters included the Beatles, the Moody Blues and King Crimson, who all immortalized the unmistakable tone of the Mellotron in numerous hits.
