    Tube-Modeled EQ

Leverages several DSP upgrades that make it sonically superior to the original plugin, and which give it a ‘tone’ that is, in a word, special. The original Hammer’s top end sheen and tube-thickened low end earned it a permanent place on mix busses around the world. Hammer mk2 preserves the original design while doubling the number of available frequencies per band, including several powerful shelves. The upgraded plugin elevates the sonics further with a dead-on model of the hardware’s “default” sonic signature. A suite of beautiful gain staging and metering tools round out this compelling upgrade from Kush.

The Ampknob BDE 120 plugin captures one of the most powerful and unmistakable high-gain voices of the last three decades. Known for its crushing low end, razor-sharp attack, and blistering upper mids, this amp has become a cornerstone of modern metal recording and a defining element of producer Jens Bogren’s signature sound. This particular 120-watt monster is definitely not a “shelf-warmer” in Fascination Street studios’ amp armory. It is one of Jens Bogren’s personal favorites, the amp he reaches for when precision, aggression, and mix-ready clarity are non-negotiable. From the tightest rhythm chugs to soaring, saturated leads, the BDE 120 delivers tone that stands out in even the densest arrangements.

These programs are ‘based off of’ a pair of rack mounted, ultra clean and clear compressors, which are essentially remakes of the channel compressors that were found in the famous ‘9k’ desks. These are very transparent compressors, but if they do add any color to the sound it might be a slight slickness to the high end (some character also shows through the attack and release behavior). With several dBs of gain reduction, other compressors can start to sound congested in the mids/bass, but these still sound clear and open. They can also be used to give very snappy attacks to percussive elements. These qualities have translated well to the Nebula realm. Two modules were sampled in a stereo configuration.

When this set was first released (September 2012) it had the distinction with many Nebula users as being the first Nebula compressor that ‘actually works’. Before this release, Nebula had a reputation with many as not being very good for actual compression, and compressor programs were commonly used just for their tone, in combination with VST plug-ins to do the actual gain reduction. I think it’s more than fair to say that this release helped change all that. The hardware has a great reputation for precision, and being somewhat transparent, while still having its own character. It has lots of controls and features (including an extra high frequency control section, which I sampled for use here), which made it very tricky to sample, but that’s part of what drew me to them. It also has amazing specs as far as noise/distortion goes, and who knows, they may one day be considered a modern classic. Some people seem to think of them as such already.

Direct-to-DAW recordings can sound cold and lifeless due to the lack of multi-stage saturation that a recording console provides. Louder Than Liftoff’s SILVER BULLET mk2 plugin applies a combination of sweetening effects, allowing you to shape the tone of individual tracks, instrument busses, and stereo mixdowns. Open your mixes to a new level of character, normally only found in studios with massive analog recording consoles and mountains of outboard gear.

  • S-609A mk2 Bus Compressor Limiter NEBULA-ARCADiA-MaGeSY

    S-609A mk2 NEBULA

    Team ARCADiA | 16 September 2024 | 40.09 MB

‘Based on’ a compressor (sought after original release version ‘A’ with the metal knobs!) that has famously found a lot of use as a bus comp, since its introduction in the early 80s. It’s known for its characteristic smooth sound and ability to ‘glue’ the elements of a mix or bus together. It has gained many die-hard fans who use it every time they mix, and it has been used on many classic recordings. It can also be used in many situations besides bus compression alone. Some like to use it to beef up electric/acoustic guitars, pianos, vocals and other sources, and it even gets used while tracking by some. It has been called a desert island piece. You don’t need many dBs of compression to get a benefit out of it, with common use involving just a bit of gain reduction for enhancement. Some even use it without compression just for its (subtle) tone. On the other hand, it still sounds great when you push it for lots of gain reduction.
