Slick 9k Mk2 NEBULA

These programs are ‘based off of’ a pair of rack mounted, ultra clean and clear compressors, which are essentially remakes of the channel compressors that were found in the famous ‘9k’ desks. These are very transparent compressors, but if they do add any color to the sound it might be a slight slickness to the high end (some character also shows through the attack and release behavior). With several dBs of gain reduction, other compressors can start to sound congested in the mids/bass, but these still sound clear and open. They can also be used to give very snappy attacks to percussive elements. These qualities have translated well to the Nebula realm. Two modules were sampled in a stereo configuration.

Smack VU Compressor NEBULA

An early VCA based compressor, considered by many to be among the best of its type for drums, bass, vocals, and more. It’s not without its detractors, with some considering it to be a simple one trick pony, mainly due to the original hardware’s lack of adjustable attack and release controls. The Nebula programs I’ve made here do have added attack and release controls, making it much more flexible. By default the programs load on settings that represent the hardware closest. From there you can adjust the controls and get different behaviors that weren’t possible with the original hardware, while retaining the rest of the original characteristics that got the original labeled a character piece.

Neev 14 Console Legacy NEBULA

One of the classic Neev consoles of the early 70s is the N14. This high quality, Class A desk, was the first of the “80 series” of legendary top class consoles and it bears “His” name. His preamp modules have established themselves as the most sought after mic-pres in the history of recording. This is especially true for vocals. The amazing summing amp gives a rich, warm and fat sound…that “magic Neev sound”!

THE-D v1.5 For NEBULA

THE-D is based on a stereo opto compressor (some call it “Edward”), made famous as it was used for one of the busses by an engineer named Michael, who mixed a lot of famous records. In his multi-buss system, the fourth bus “D” employed this compressor. This compressor is quite rare and not known by many. When I found it in a studio in Berlin, I asked its owner if he would be interested in making a plug-in out of it. He allowed me to capture it and THE-D was born. THE-D features a Preamp and a Compressor program. Our libraries require Nebula3, N4, or N4.5. They do not work with N4 Player or with non-commercial versions of the software.

Quantam v1.5 For NEBULA

Quantam is based on a famous ADDA converter made by a Wisconsin-based company, led by one of the best engineers in the audio industry, today. It features three modules: Electrode, Arc, and Tape. Quantam is supposed to be subtle and oftentimes even barely audible, but you can certainly feel its effect. It makes the music feel more effortless, easier to listen to, organic, and sometimes often ‘expensive’ in its flow. Electrode features 2nd- and 3rd-order harmonics focused on giving a certain amount of mass and density to your material. Arc is aimed at enhancing the higher registry and the energy of the highest details in the spectrum. Tape is capable of making music more organic, cohesive, effortless, and smooth in flow. Quantam does not contain any AD or DA conversion in its sound, just the processing behavior.

Magnetics Anvil v1.5 NEBULA
