    Creating Your Own Audio Tools

    FANTASTiC | 28 June 2018 | 2.63 GB

For years I’ve been teaching Ableton Live and Max in the college classroom. As a University Professor, my classes are sought after, and, frankly, expensive. I believe Ableton Live can be learned by anyone, and cost shouldn’t be a barrier. This class uses the same outline and syllabus I’ve used in my college classes for years, at a fraction of the cost. MaxForLive is a powerful tool that lets users design their own instruments, effects, and devices. It isn’t without its drawbacks: MaxForLive is notoriously difficult to learn. I’ve developed an approach for teaching MaxForLive that focuses on teaching it like a language: You will learn small blocks and patches, understanding the how and the why along the way. As we grow our vocabulary, we “learn how to learn” more and more.

Arp Sound Design & Creating Atmosphere

      FANTASTiC | 28 June 2018 | 304 MB

This class has a few sections to it because I want to provide in depth knowledge for each topic. I start with creating an arpeggiated synth using NI Massive and ableton’s arpeggiator effect. Next is a atmospheric chord pad also using NI Massive. The next section is mixing these instruments together in an EDM style using the DAW’s audio effects. Finally I explain how layering sounds creates the size heard in EDM music. Create an arpeggiated synth with a unique rhythmic pattern. Try using different oscillators and modulation rates to get your own style. If you want to take it to the next level, mix your synth into a short loop and use noise layers and background synths to create a large atmospherics sound.

With a minimal setup of a computer and a keyboard, you can dive into a world of endless possibilities and create your own instrumental electronic music composition. In this class, we’re going to create a song by exploring the beat, the bass and the lead melody; the three basic elements to our piece. By the end, you’ll be ready to create your own electronic song with mood and feeling. All you need for this class is a computer with the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) of your choice, a keyboard and a pair of speakers or headphones. Basic knowledge of music is helpful but not mandatory.
