AD Sound Tools is a real-time software that provides effective use of your PC sound devices. It includes a signal generator, a recorder, two oscilloscopes and two spectrum analyzers. The program allows to control your recording device in time and frequency domains, record a signal to WAV file and then convert it to MP3 one. AD Sound Tools can generate sine, white noise and short pulses signals and monitor them in separate waveform and spectrum windows. Connecting the generator and an available sound device you can evaluate its frequency response using sine sweep, optionally white noise and short pulses. The data obtained can be saved as a Windows Bitmap and a text CSV-file. The program can be used in educational purposes. It allows you to perform some interesting tests with your sound devices including microphone localization and sound interference tests.

Wurlitzer virtual instrument plugin was sampled from an “early model” 1970’s Wurlitzer 200A electronic piano. The process began by close-miking the piano with Beyerdynamic MC930 condenser microphones on the Wurlitzer’s built-in speakers, and an AEA R84 Ribbon Mic on the line-out signal through a Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp. These signals were fed into Grace M101 and AEA TRP Preamps respectively. The wurlitzer’s amplifier and preamp were re-capped in an attempt to save the amplifier, but about half way through the sampling process the amplifier died, which eventually killed the power transformer. The preamp, amp, and power transformer were all replaced and sampling continued. Well sampling the bass notes, it became apparent that the Wurlitzer’s built in speakers also needed to be replaced.

A special feature of the BBCMP is that it enables the operator to split the incoming signal using the Low Pass and High Pass filters. These then allow you to apply processing (compression, limiting, expansion and gate) to each band independently. Once each band has been processed, the following signal pathway shows you how the separate bands are then summed to produce the final output. The great advantage of processing in this way is that you have full control over the extent to which the 2 bands are processed rather than only the summed signal being processed. This means that if, for example, the low end is strong and pushing the compressor to attenuate the signal when it comes into play, in a standard compressor the higher frequencies would also be compressed at these times. With the BBCMP you can separately control the low end and leave the high end relatively unprocessed, if that is what you need, or conversely deal with the high end and leave the low end with lesser processing.
