UFO Light is a “light” version of Audeon’s flagship product – UFO (Unique Filters and Oscillators). Though it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that enable UFO to produce complex textures and voice-like sounds, UFO Light shares the same synthesis technology and user interface concept as its big brother. It is therefore a good way of discovering Transmodal Synthesis, and since UFO Light presets are fully compatible with UFO, you can upgrade anytime and take your existing presets to the next level. TransModal Synthesis relies on K-Osc, an oscillator model capable of smoothly transitioning between different oscillation modes like harmonic, noisy or chaotic, and Morphilter, a filter allowing continuous transitions between modes (low-pass, high-pass, etc.).
The Sonoris Mastering Compressor (SMCP) is a wideband mastering compressor in VST, AU, AAX and RTAS format for Windows and Mac. It is an ultra clean compressor suitable for delicate material. No odd harmonic distortion that can be found in most compressors is present in the SMCP. To reduce residual artifacts the SMCP features upsampling of the audio up to 8 times. Transparency can be further enhanced by selecting auto-release and feedback detection together with two soft knees. If a more aggressive behavior is needed you can for example choose feedforward detection with a harder knee. It can have some “character” if pushed. If needed, the audio can be warmed up with even harmonics with the flip of a switch.
Cobalt is a VSTi software synthesizer inspired by many of the digital synthesizers from the 1980s. In the early 80s as digital technology became cheaper, many manufacturers designed synthesizers that combined earlier analog technology with newer digital technology. These were known as hybrid synthesizers. Well-known hybrid synthesizers are the Korg DW8000 and DW6000, the Ensoniq ESQ-1, and the Kawai K3. In analog/digital hybrid synthesizers, the oscillators responsible for generating waveforms are digital while the filter section remains analog. This approach freed designers to use any kind of waveform; they were no longer restricted to traditional analog waveforms such as sawtooth, triangle, and pulse. However, by using an analog filter, these synthesizers retained the warmth earlier analog synthesizers were known for. Though Cobalt is a purely digital synthesizer, its overall architecture is very much like those early hybrid synthesizers. It features a wide selection of waveforms, most of which were resynthesized from actual hybrid synthesizers, while providing traditional subtractive synthesis capabilities for sculpting its sound.
