In this short demonstration, I discuss the parameters of a typical compressor, and how they affect and shape the sound. There’s a lot of information out there on compression, but my goal of this course is to provide you with clear and understandable explanations for understanding the workings of a compressor.
Ableton Live’s Operator is a very powerful FM (Frequency Modulation) synth with some interesting tricks up its sleeve. Explore this fantastic Live instrument with sound designer Rishabh Rajan, and get into FM synthesis the right way! Popularized in the early ’80s with the Yamaha DX7, FM synthesis often has a reputation of being overly complex and difficult to understand (mostly because it was a pain to tweak parameters using a single data slider on such a small LCD screen!) Thankfully, Operator’s user interface makes FM much easier to grasp and program. In this course, Ableton Live expert explains everything you need to know about FM and Live’s very flexible Operator device.
This course breaks down all of the variables involved with recording vocals for music; how to choose the right microphone, set the preamp and compressor, and how to run your D.A.W. most effectively. We take you through the steps of a typical recording session using a professional studio (Madison Records) and singer (Alex Tru). Various microphones, Vintech 573 preamp, EL8 Distressor compressor, and Pro Tools software are all utilized and explained in detail. Additionally, there is a section dedicated to post-production techniques. We explain what to do after you have finished recording. Comping vocals, editing, and basic mixing techniques are all covered in this section.
