Serum is seriously overflowing with cool features, many of which often overlooked, and some features not even documented. This is what made me decide to make an advanced sound-design course, focussing just on Serum. And indeed, it turned out to be the most in-depth course ever created by me, or on Serum in general. At first I just wanted to focus on the Serum Guru’s, those of you that already know and love the synth, and are enthusiastic about diving even deeper. But then I realised, since it was going to be a big course anyway, I might as well include the basics, so that everyone who owns Serum can follow along. With Cascade 112dB gives you a completely new form of synthesis to play with, creating sounds you could never create before. Cascade synthesis is based on a complex delay network that can densify a sound up to 5832 times. That doesn’t mean however that a sound you create with cascade will per definition sound ‘denser’. It can also be more lush and spacious, depending on the settings you choose. What makes Cascade really unique however is that a sound can develop over time, adding extra dimensions to it. chipsynth MD is a feature-rich four operator FM synth that packs quite a punch. The Mega Drive – also known as Genesis – is a much beloved console system that brought the bright and sparkly sound of FM to the masses. It resulted in the creation of numerous fast paced and exciting soundtracks, and it still drives the creativity of composers to this day. As we designed chipsynth MD, we couldn’t help ourselves but to jam pack it with features that take it to the next level, with an access to every component of the hardware no matter how obscure, and an intelligent layering system that lets you turn any OPN2 patch into a monstrous ear-splitting 6-layer wall of sound. MD features a bit accurate OPN2 (YM2612) emulator. We combined it with a SN76489-compatible square wave core (SPSG) and a special emulation of the very crunchy sample playback found in games, and we multiplied all of this by 6 to make it polyphonic in every situation imaginable. A complimentary VGM file player allows you to audition hundreds of vintage soundtracks just like they were meant to be heard.
