The Plucked String is a physical modelling string instrument with a warm and pleasant sound, which includes five different string models. The type of sounds range from fuzzy, metallic guitar strings, over smooth nylon strings, to big and fat floorbass. It is also capable of more imaginative sounds with less resamblance to any real-world instruments. A selection of four different wavesets (also called models) is available. In the latest version, a fifth model was added – the “acoustic” model, which is even more lively and real sounding than any of the other models.

It sounds slightly out of tune here and there. The silvery overtones in the middle and high register add the special edge to this unique sounding instrument. So it’s perfect for magical or even horrifying music-experiences.  Features * Range: 2 octaves oringally recorded, 2 octaves pitched extension * 44 kHz / 16bit, wave format * 3 Round-Robins The Kontakt-Instrument has a range of four Octaves. Since the original Dulcimer has a range of only two octaves, the highest and lowest octaves are pitched. So playing the main parts and melodies in the middle two octaves is recommended.

And very different from the kinds of sounds usually associated with the clavinet. Sounds were triggered by plucking the strings. Not by using the keyboard. By playing directly on the strings, you can use different tricks normally utilised by guitar players. But it doesn’t sound like a guitar! Clavinet metamorphosed to a variety of shapes, and folded into adventurous kontakt patches.

Plucked Strings brings together a set of stringed instruments with unique sounds: a ronroco, a Celtic harp, and the harmonics from a set of electric and acoustic guitars and basses. Carefully recorded to capture the characterful timbre of each instrument, the samples in this Pack feel just as suited to experimental sound design as they do to alternative pop, folk and ambient cinematic music. Each instrument comes in two forms: a standard mode, featuring several basic playing articulations along with a natural-sounding reverb, and extended mode, which includes more experimental effects processing, and in some cases additional playing articulations. The result is almost forty different tones to play with, from sharp staccato plucks to gentle, reverberant swells of sound.

What this consists of is 3.8 gig of samples that have been taken from Film, TV & Vinyl. This kind of stuff you generally dont get in normal sample CDs. Great for inspiration or unusual samples. Some of the samples are good for looping up and using in live performances, and some good for productions. I think anyone making any genre could find a useable sample amongst these. Particularly good for beat makers. Anyway I wont waffle on, I would just recommend getting this because samples like these arent easy to come by, unless you sample from sources like Film, TV & Vinyl.

This time out we visit Yamaha and delve inside the FM beast that is the DX7. The Yamaha DX7 is an FM (Frequency Modulation) digital synth and was manufactured from 1983 to 1989. The DX became the first commercially successful Digital synth and featured in hundreds of productions from Electro Pop, Jazz, Rock and early 90s House music it in fact seemed to be everywhere.. It is most famous for its Electric Piano, Bells, Plucked and Percussive Sounds, but the complex way the sounds are shaped with multiple Sine Waves modulating each other using 32 different algorithms meant that the sound design possibilities were huge and with some patience and effort very complex sounds from horns to strings, atmospheres and crazy metallic sound effects were possible.
