X-Static Goldmine 5 is the last CD in the X-Static series. With X-Static 5 we wanted to go “PURE ELECTRIC.” This CD is therefore jampacked with synthetic loops, FX & drum samples. Not a single “real” world sound exists on this CD, meaning all have been artificially produced with analog synths & computer technology. We think this angle of dance music, that was started by pioneers like Kraftwerk, is still very active & growing all the time.
Phoenix is a powerful tool for creating string and choir sustains with movement and character. The samples are from synthetic and granulised sources, yet they are rich and organic sounding. The presets vary from realistic strings and choirs to sci-fi beeps and pads. This versatility is due to some unique scripting, such as the LFO engine; which lets you draw your own waveforms and actually see the modulation happen on the controls. Phoenix is a Kontakt library designed to be a tool for making rich pads using strings and choirs. There are 6 oscillators which can be mixed, tuned and panned. Each of these layers are great sounding by themselves, but when layered properly can create rich tones. On this first page are also 2 ADSR envelopes, for the volume, and low pass filter. Movement is key when making sustained instruments, and this is where Phoenix excels. The unique LFO engine allows easy modulation of virtually any parameter. The shape of this oscillation can be drawn by you and the results are actually shown on the control that you have chosen (such as cutoff frequency or layer 3 volume). Up to 4 parameters can be modulated at once. The second page of Phoenix is the FrozenPlain Effects Engine v2.0, this contains 13 effects such as reverb, phaser, chorus, echo and more.
Recoil is a quad-voice sound engine – featuring an innovative physical modelling/granular engine and thus offers a new approach to generating sounds and produces some truly different and unique output. Alongside these features Recoil has a powerful set of effects. There’s a send effects rack (with 4 different slots) and each voice has its own independent in-line effect rack, again with 4 slots.
Folio – Bass is a dual voice ROMpler aimed squarely at Bass sounds. Our starting point are the 300 instrument samples included in Folio – Bass, these were meticulously recorded, edited and mastered using our analogue valve based system, including passing each sound through our dedicated 1970’s Akai valve pre-amp and then copying everything through our Revox B77 tape machine loaded with vintage (but pristine) british Zonal 675 tape. It’s a long, slow process but we think the resulting sounds are worth it. Next the Folio – Bass instrument is equipped with many “classic” synthesis controls, like envelopes and filters, and these add to the capabilities Folio – Bass has for sculpting and shaping modern innovative and original sounds quickly and efficiently.
