Few instruments have made marks in music history so indelible that they in the process have become just as famed as some of the songs that were created on them. The Hammond* organ is undoubtedly one of those. Since it was first introduced, it has fostered generations of new players and has had a profound impact on the development of anything from gospel, jazz and blues to funk, prog, rock and the many iterations of modern music of today. We are proud to add this icon of organs as an expansion for the EZkeys 2 format. For the sounds, the Toontrack team scoured the market for the most pristine, maintained and transparent organ from which all of its 91 spinning tonewheels were carefully sampled. In the final product, these recordings have been seamlessly merged with advanced modeling of both the organ’s tone and all its classic traits, like key clicks, percussion, vibrato and chorus. Add to that a flawless recreation of a quintessential rotary speaker and you have the utmost in extreme audio realism.

The Sandy Creek Organ library captures the last gasps of life from this well-worn vintage Thomas Monticello organ. Bequeathed to us by a friendly neighbor, this gem had a story to tell. Sandy Creek Organ captures the last gasps of life from this well-worn vintage Thomas Monticello organ. Bequeathed to us by a friendly neighbor, this gem had a story to tell. It seems that in the downtime between service as a musical instrument, this particular organ also served as a home to countless little critters who left their mark all over the interior. There it sat in our old Sand Creek studio until we got it working just long enough to unlock some of its musical mysteries. In order to capture all of the character of this vintage treasure, we recorded two microphone positions: up close and room. Sandy Creek Organ includes six different sustain types (two of which feature a rotating Leslie speaker), each with round robin and releases, as well as a variety of sound effects. As always we have included a selection of carefully crafted ambiences and creative FX presets to help jumpstart your creative juices. The actual Thomas Monticello we recorded may have reached its last stop, but it will live on forever as our Sandy Creek Organ.

The instrument’s vivid orange plastic exterior echoes the popular aesthetics of the 1970s and early 1980s during which time the organ was produced. The Bontempi organ that Bontastic! recreates is deceptively simple — 25 keys and 8 chord buttons, no stops or options. But with Bontastic! we here at Soundiron have retrofitted a classic instrument and unlocked all the potential from a classic piece of music equipment. The power of Bontastic! is really unlocked by the easy-to-use yet powerful 3D-modeled user interface. Basic sound shaping options are included: volume swell, note attack time, release time and sample start offset let users mold the sound anyway they want.
