The ADS C3 cassette deck can play at the standard 1 7/8 IPS, but also at 3 3/4. The double speed mode increases performance, including: noise floor, wow and flutter, and high frequency reproduction. At single speed the deck already performs very well, but the quality at double speed puts this deck in contention for the highest quality to be had from cassette. It even approaches the reel format, with the noise floor and wow/flutter being the only specs really holding it back (while still being very good for cassette). Lucky for us, those faults don’t exist in the Nebula programs! Many tapes were used, with some of each type (I, II, III, and IV), and of various qualities.
The “NICE EQ” brings one of the most sought after hardware eq’s directly to your DAW with amazing accuracy. You are actually working with two unique hardware eq plug-ins, with Solid State and Vacuum Tube versions. Not only is an ultra-realistic analog frequency attribute being performed, but also advanced harmonic content. NICE EQ is based upon a new sound engine called Acqua, developed by Acustica Audio, creators of the “Powered by Nebula Core II Technology” engine, an advanced form of audio generation called V.V.K.T., or Vectorial Volterra Kernels Technology. This allows the Plug-In to reproduce exacting details of analog sound, not just changes in frequency but also harmonic content in the form of live, streaming data.
This is the 2nd of a two part set. Here we have a set of band-pass and notch filters that were ‘based on’ a unique, vintage filter unit that was heavily used in forensic audio work, due to its extremely sharp notch filters which can precisely remove unwanted frequency specific noises, without adversely affecting the kept audio. Some users found more creative uses for the super-sharp notches and peaks, which could make unique phaser-like (though not as extreme) effects when swept around, and that ability has been improved here, using Nebula’s built in LFO to modulate the effect. There is also a pass-through program that samples the unit’s character with all filters disabled. Everything was sampled with a Lynx Aurora 8 using high-end Mogami cables.
