It takes inspiration from hardware compressors of the past with a focus on peak detection, meaning that it can quickly and effortlessly react to incoming signals and blend them in with the surrounding audio field. When a busy track needs taming, Smoov softly settles your tracks. The compressor uses a program-dependent envelope influenced by old hardware making the compression sound smooth and dynamic. The peak detection means that Smoov detects the actual amplitude of a signal, resulting in an extremely fast response to tame and control anything that is thrown at it. You’ve got a big, groovy track you think you’re happy with, but you have to ask yourself… “Is it Smoov?”
The Lindell ChannelX bundle is more than your typical bundle. While on one level it is a collection of three amazing Lindell plugins, the 7X-500 limiter, the PEX-500 EQ and the 6X-500 preamp, it also includes the ChannelX plugin shell which allows you to run all three plugins in a single insert and even change the order that they appear in the signal path. Start off with the 6X-500 preamp to add a bit of punch and color, then add some tasty vintage FET compression with the 7X-500 limiter and then dial in some sweetness with the Pultec inspired PEX-500 EQ.
There are several reasons to use a variable-bias tube compressor. Crack is a workhorse of a plugin. It’s great on just one drum or for quickly adjusting a loop and is cheap on your CPU so you can load it up across all your tracks. Its other advantage is that it can be blended with the dry signal using the Dry/Wet knob, so you can dial in the amount of the effect. Like Impact, Crack features a custom limiter for peak reduction, soft analog-modeled clipping, and a maximizer specially tuned for use with transient materials.
