The Dixieland Collection is a laser- focused Trad Jazz ensemble of instruments designed to tap into the iconic sound of Jazz Giants like ‘Louis Armstrong and his Hot 7’ or ‘King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band’ from the very birth of Jazz itself in the early 1900s – with every articulation performed to encapsulate everything from a strong live-performed ‘Satchmo’ style vibrato across all brass instruments, to idiomatic and highly nuanced inflections and performance techniques across the entire range. Including; Cornet, Clarinet, Trombone, Banjo (with live tempo sync’d strumming), Piano, Upright Bass and a Jazz Drum Kit (including iconic percussive elements). Warm Bassy Plucks

The Gimbri is a three-stringed skin-covered bass that originated in Morocco. It is actually a lute that produces rich deep but also somewhat harsh and earthy tones through its wooden body and goat gut strings. Often compared to a bass guitar, the gimbri brings deepness into the music with its low dynamic range. The main focus was to capture different articulations of the Gimbri while keeping its organic feeling and warm sound. Traditionally played with the fingers, we recorded it muted, with a plec and through an amp to ensure a wide variety of tones. It comes with five presets, while the possibility of custom settings is kept open.

Then he demonstrates how the sampler modes, a spectral oscillator, compression, and chorus can be used to create a textured keys patch that can really liven up a track.

Richard Taylor sampled many analog synths and released the results into the Public Domain. bigcat instruments has started turning them into Kontakt instruments. Thanks to scripts and GUI from Mickaël Ménager, each synth will feature effects such as distortion and compression along with built in amp simulation. The first Taylor sampled synth, the Axis 80 has just been released. It has over 2500 samples and weighs in at a touch under 2 gigs compressed.
