Fun fact. There aren’t many useable, let alone good free piano libraries. I was putting together a list of the best free pianos for our blog and YouTube channel, and after trying out about 20 freebies, I was shocked at how bad most of them are. Why Denver? It’s admittedly not the first city you think of when you picture a grand piano. But Denver is the city where Echo Sound Works started. Denver is where I went to college to study music. That’s why we jumped at the chance to sample a Piano from my old stomping grounds.

Explore an array of superb artists performing live laid-back vibes in trios, duets and solo arrangements that were recorded and mixed at various studios with a host of vintage gear. Instruments include grand pianos, rhodes, whurlitzer, various jazz guitars, bass, flute, saxophone, trumpet, flugelhorn and vibraphone. Each stereo sample was processed and mixed on analog consoles and pre-mastered with LA-2A limiters for that rich vintage tube saturation sound.

The TBO, was recorded at OAL studios in Stockholm Sweden using a Yamaha C7 Grand Piano. We used a matched pair of Neumann SM2 for picking up the sound of this great instrument. The MkII Since the samplers has been become more advanced and the TBO still are one of our most popular pianos, we decided to bring it up to date and add some functions in the line of the original ideas. We also added hammerback and pedalnoise samples. Then we added our True Resonance feature and used Kontakts scripting facilities to make Real Time/True Pedaling, Sympathetic Resonance and some other nifty features, and, Voila: The TBO MkII

When making the White Grand the production goal was to make a sampled Grand Piano that would work great in a mix but also deliver the dynamic response of a real piano. Using SLH, a developed software made it possible for us to record different velocities very precisely and from that build an instrument that delivered the same dynamic as the real thing. When we finished the White Grand, we had a sampled piano that didn’t just work in a mix, but worked on simply anything! The ST SSG – Small Studio Grand is a smaller Grand Piano, (6′ 1″) that give a tighter, more defined sound then a larger instrument. Recorded in one of Swedens best room for acoustic instruments, using Neumann M269’s and Neumann M250’s ensures that the recorded material gives you the best performance possible. The Blue Grand is the perfect piano when you want something that’s a bit more mellow, old school and ambient sound. The great instrument used for the White Grand and White Sister, a large Malmsjo Grand, a 100 year old beauty, was here used to create their more soft spoken sister. The instrument was miked up pretty closed, to remain contact with the instrument, but room mikes was used to give it a more ambient character. It was also tuned to give a bit more movement in the tone, giving it an even more old school sound. The Blue Grand is not the ultimate Grand Piano that will cover all bases, but if you need a ambient, old school instrument that still has precense, look no further!
