The Virtuoso Series Solo Flute is designed to be an extremely flexible multi-sample collection. The focus is on single, multi-sample notes rather than “riffs” or “phrases”, though some popular rips (fast sweeping “flurries”) are included.

‘World Series: Kaval Flute’ is the continuation of this series of products that feature traditional folklore compositions from all over the world, performed using rare and unique instruments. This pack contains high quality recordings of the Kaval Flute, suitable for any film, advertisement and music production. These traditional Kaval Flute compositions were played by a professional flute player, using the highest quality hand-crafted instrument and recorded using Schoeps CMC 6 phantom powered amplifier and Colette Modular Capsule. The Kaval Flute is a chromatic end-blown wooden pipe, primarily associated with mountain shepherds throughout the Balkans and Anatolia. Traditionally played throughout Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, northern Greece and Turkey, this instrument comprises three parts. The uppermost part of the Kaval has no finger holes. There is a special ring made either of antler or of bull horn, which is fitted there and from where the sound itself is produced. The middle part has eight apertures, seven on the front part and one on the back. Musicians use only these eight holes. The third part has only four holes. The uppermost hole sets the basic tone and the remaining three are resonant. Designed for Kontakt 4.2 and above, Ethnic Flute has a deep, rich tone and is suitable for many styles of World music. The instrument uses velocity switching to give a natural sounding performance simply by playing the split keyboard (staccato notes on the lower keys, various sustained articulations on the upper). A selection of breaths is also included. Volume can be adjusted using the modulation wheel.
It was interesting to see how a tuned percussive instrument made out of the taps of flute pads against the holes would work. The result is a highly playable and unique percussive instrument for Kontakt V4.2 or above. I multi-sampled taps recorded from the flute’s mouthpiece. The mod wheel switches between the over blown flute and the tapping. A dedicated set of convolution reverbs can be selected by dragging on the reverb select text on the custom interface, plus a knob so you can dial in the amount of reverb desired into the mix.
Retro Flute is not a “yet another flute library.” Above and beyond the extreme scripted features and flawless recording/sampling quality, Retro Flute provides the user with something new and innovative. Though it will sit extremely well in a Cinematic, Classical or Jazz ensemble track, it is the retro sound used by many progressive rock artists that produces a pure and powerful tone. Perhaps the most exciting feature of Retro Flute is the ability to generate the popular sung style, best described as the flute being sung through as it is sounding. This mix of instrument and vocalist has never been sampled before.
