Composing Epic Trailer Music

Today we’re re-scoring the trailer for a really exciting upcoming indie film called ‘Punch’ using the fundamental principles of epic trailer music. To ensure we cover all the fundamentals of music creation, we’ll be building chords into strong progressions that we’ll layer with interesting harmonics and build until.. we arrive at… the drop… BWAAAAAAH. By popular request, this class will include instruction on creating your very own BWAAAH that you can implement into your upcoming film or trailer score. There was no BWAAAH in the original version of this trailer (nor does their need to be) but adding one has drastically altered the tone of the trailer and made it far darker and grittier, and I like it!

Composing Music for Film II

Getting started on a film score can be terrifying, but it doesnt have to be! In this class, were going to break a score down into its fundamental parts and build up a sound that fits the film like a glove. The film already has a score, but the scene were using doesnt. Our focus today is creating a sound that is unique to the film and appropriate for its genre, tone, and the emotion conveyed by the on-screen characters. Well be doing this by building the score by first layering a chord progression, then adding a melody, refining it, then adding bass that pulls it all together. What well have in the end is a situational motif that brings out the emotion of the scene. So if youre interested in scoring a film, please join us.

Have you always been curious about MIDI instruments? Maybe you’ve dabbled with MIDI keyboards in the past, but having seen all the interesting new styles of instruments in recent years, your curiosity has increased? In this class, we’re going to explore composing an original track using a Maschine Mikro MK3. We will build our drumline, chords, and melody within the software Maschine 2 using our instrument, then transition our loop into Ableton Live 11 for final production and arrangement.
