Our Olympus Symphonic Choir Collection is a massive professional choral scoring library for the Native Instruments Kontakt platform. It’s comprised of the Mars Men’s and Venus Women’s divisi choirs. It includes 63 hand-picked professional singers from the SF Choral Society, Volti and the SF Symphony Chorus, conducted by renowned maestro Robert Geary. We recorded our ensembles in a large natural hall, us a carefully-balanced, wide multi-position array. With the help of 12 large-diaphragm Neumann microphones and Sound Devices multi-track recorders, we captured over 90 solid hours of vocal performances. We then hand-programmed each section over the course of an entire year, using specialized techniques and years of engineering and instrument design experience.

We took all we learned from recording previous choirs and applied them here to make certain Venus is extraordinarily playable, diverse and stunningly beautiful. There is a special sound to a traditional English boy’s choral ensemble — solemn lows, angelic highs and an overwhelming innocence that harkens back to the days of youth and purity. With Mercury, we managed to capture this unique quality as we painstakingly sampled a full boy’s choral ensemble (ages 8-13) in the same large crystal-clear hall in which we recorded our Olympus choirs.
