Rayphlex A+B Bundle
An old Philco 6-tube amplifier has been extensively sampled to use as a unique tone-shaping tool in Nebula. Much time and effort went into making sure that the end results were faithful to the hardware, which sounds great, and was sold with several phonograph consoles (model G1708, for example) back in the 50′s. It was sampled in 3 different hardware setups (using Lynx Aurora), for 3 different flavors. For all 3, the unit’s bass and treble knobs were sampled so that Nebula could recreate the behavior of the unit across all possible combinations of the two. The ‘bass’ knob mostly acts as an adjustable high pass, and ‘treble’ as a shelf. Together they can also be used to create ’tilt-like’ eq setups (check the freq response graphs in manual to see what’s possible).
Tube Radio LP is a unique low pass filter with fully adjustable cutoff AND resonance control. Sampled with dynamics! Lower input levels gives a smooth fluffy sound, higher input levels thicken the sound. Trim control provides quick and easy control over what you get. This thing demands a little more from your CPU than the Nebula stuff you’re used to, so the faster your system is, the better. It was sampled with FM transmission with a tube radio tuner picking up the signal. The filter came from a hardware VA synth. The transmitter/radio was driven just right, so that distortion would be triggered at the higher levels, but not so much with lower levels. You get a very sharp, tall resonant peak, and if you use a hot signal it will trigger strong harmonics! This effect was inspired by some very cool modular synth hardware made by an innovative company that uses old tube radio tubes in all of their stuff. There are 5 and 10k versions, and the 10k version is subject to this disclaimer.
“The Producer’s Pack 2” library collection is the long-awaited companion to “The Producer’s Pack”, providing 37 new programs, including our unique “Real Spaces” Reverb collection, Bass EQ, and Vox and Marshall EQ’s and Amps! This new library collection gives customers an amazing new array of tools for direct inject of bass and guitar. “Real Space” will give you a completely new mindset for mixing, providing a palette of true-to-life acoustic spaces for instrument and vocal placement. Whether you are mixing completely in the box, or recording all live material, you can bring more dimensional space and re-amping choices with immediacy!
Custom-made tremolos. These weren’t sampled from actual ‘tremolo’ FX units. Instead they were created from 10 different hardware chains using various pieces of solid-state hardware. The basic tremolo effect is volume level modulated by an LFO. Here, the units were sampled with one of their gain controls set to various positions. Then the LFO in Nebula is used to modulate between those positions.
A 1970 Gibbs spring reverb tank (2 spring model) was sampled 14 times. This was probably taken from a Hammond organ, but the same model was used in Fender gear also. Different hardware setups were used, along with a little digital and analog trickery (in some programs), to get a variety of tonal possibilities, all still true to the basic spring sound. In some cases, feedback was used (with 2 different paths), in others cassette tapes were used, and in some cases objects were placed on or wedged between the springs to cause different resonances and decay behaviors. Some employed a method to shift the frequency response of the spring up or down. Check the manual for detailed descriptions of how each effect was made.
