The Balalaika is a small string instrument which most likely originates from central Asian lute instruments. Nowadays, however, Balalaikas are most closely associated with eastern European, especially Russian music. First mentioned in the 17th Century, it was primarily used for village and folk music, but the Balalaika also started to be included in concert performances in the 19th Century. This even leads to the forming of Balalaika orchestras. Additionally, the Balalaika acquired its iconic triangular shape at that time. The Balalaika we have recorded is a three-stringed prima Balalaika typically tuned in E-E-A tuning.
The Lap Harp comes along with 3 Articulations, 4 Round Robins and 2 velocities at a low volume. As an additional gimmick, we implemented a Glissando and a Tremolo function via the script, which affects the midi behavior and enables you to get a step closer to the natural playability of the actual instrument. The Lap Harp enriches your music with a lovely organic feel whether you use it as a solo or just as a background instrument.
We built the Autoharp from scratch. So, we have here a newly designed Autoharp with many new articulations and vast possibilities. It’s a perfect instrument to give your music a subtle highlighted shape. WHAT IS AN AUTOHARP? The Autoharp was invented at the end of the 19th century by Charles F. Zimmermann, a German immigrant in Philadelphia. It is a stringed instrument and, despite its name, the Autoharp is not a harp. In fact, this instrument is a chorded zither with 36 steel strings stretched over a soundbox. It has a series of chord bars that, when pushed down, mute all the strings other than those that form the desired chord. By doing so, you can easily play chords. It’s a perfect instrument to give your music a subtle highlighted shape.
We used a 5-String Banjo with a 33 cm diameter mahogany body. We played and recorded the Banjo in many ways to get the typical banjo sound – each in several velocity layers and 2 Round Robin variations. As a result, we came out with a very realistic and organic Banjo.
The Mandolin is a small string instrument – it is a flat back soprano Mandolin from Ireland. It is tuned like a violin in G-D-A-E. The Mandolin is a small string instrument which evolved from the lute family in Italy during the 17th and 18th centuries. It is usually plucked with a plectrum and has 4 courses of doubled metal strings, usually tuned in perfect 5th. Our Mandolin instrument is a flat back soprano Mandolin from Ireland. It is tuned like a violin in G-D-A-E. Our primary focus was on creating a Mandolin instrument that delivers a natural and organic feel. Our instrument provides two different plucking sounds, “Plec”and “Finger”, as well as “Vintage” and a “Strummed” articulation. All of those are equipped with a compelling and organic tremolo feature which allows you to easily play the Mandolin in the typical “tragic “tremolo style. In addition to that, we programmed a strumming engine which performs patterns based on the pressed keys. This is best suitable for accompanying your song or music.
The Ronroco is a stringed mandolin-like instrument of the Andean regions. It has a sound box traditionally fashioned from armadillo- or tortoiseshell. Nowadays, this box is often made of wood, and it typically has ten strings in five courses of 2 strings each. Initially played in traditional Andean music, today, the Ronroco is usually heard in Gustavo Santaolalla’s music. We used different microphone positions to build a realistic instrument and recorded the Ronroco in 4 Round Robin variations and 3 to 5 velocity layers. All patches have several options to shape the sound, such as EQ, cabinet, distortion, and reverb. We also included an arpeggiator and a step sequencer. The Ronroco is very inspiring and will certainly enrich your music production.
