BFD Modern Retro is an expansion pack for BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2 with a pair of kits that helped define the sound of the 90s and early 2000s. Produced and recorded by Chocolate Audio (the team behind BFD Imperial Drums), the pack combines extreme levels of detail with varied mic channels and beater types to provide a set of remarkably expressive drums with a wide timbral range. The 70 included instruments include 1997 Sonor Designer and late 90s Tama Starclassic kits, Ludwig, Sonor and Tama snares and a suite of cymbals and hihats by Zildjian, Ufip, Paiste, Turkish and Sabian. Many sounds feature hotrod or brush versions while kicks are provided in plastic and felt beater versions and recorded with 4 direct mics! The lush ambience of the recording space is captured with 2 sets of overhead and room mics. BFD Modern Retro comes with mix-ready presets designed to offer a variety of pop/rock-oriented sounds although the pack is perfect for all modern genres that demand detailed, focused and powerful-sounding drums.

Miniverse (formerly Minimode) is a painstaking virtual emulation of the granddaddy of all portable synthesizers. Introduced in 1971, no other instrument is more associated with the word “synthesizer” – it’s perhaps the best-known and loved analog synthesizer ever made. Though its innards weren’t identical to the massive modular synths, it shared the thick, juicy, “fat” analog sound that remains unchallenged 50 years later! It set the standard for future synthesizers, inspired whole new genres of music, and defined the sound of artists as diverse as Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock, Rick Wakeman, Pink Floyd, Parliament, Gary Numan, and countless others. Miniverse was conceived as the ultimate tribute to the original instrument. We focused on a single principle: absolute authenticity.

Shrike is an advanced shimmer designer. It processes an octave-shifted reverb through a matrix of 4 LFOs to create pulsating, fluctuating space effects. Between the different LFO settings (rate and waveform) you can generate cross-modulation from the controls, getting pulses and swell patterns that never repeat. For example, it is interesting to set different rates per control for overlapping, modulating spaces. Or turn the LFO rates toward the fastest speed for amplitude modulation artifacts. A slapback delay adds to the sound design possibilities as you can adjust it according to your spatial feedback needs.
