Midnight Grand Recorded in a spacious concert hall, this Steinway Model D Grand Piano features a layer of cotton between the hammers and strings, which imparts a delicate, cinematic sound. The felt piano sound has become a staple in every composer’s collection. While most felt pianos are uprights, recorded using their practice pedal, we’ve expanded this concept to a grand piano. After experimenting with different materials, we settled on a thin layer of cotton between the hammers and strings. This produces a richer, darker tone, and when recorded in a large concert hall, it creates a striking contrast to our other felted piano, Woodchester Piano, which was captured in a small, dry studio. Enhancing the library further, we’ve included 14 Atmosphere Layers—pads that seamlessly blend beneath the raw piano sound—along with a versatile set of controls. These elements are explored through eight carefully crafted snapshot presets, introduced in the latest update, that act as a great starting point when exploring darker music genres.

Fission A is a new library for Kontakt 6 and is inspired by works of Hildur Guðnadóttir and specially her soundtrack for the outstanding HBO serie Chernobyl. This library is created together with the Fission B library for Omnisphere 2. Both use the same soundsources, but are meant to be complimentary. Ever since watching the first minutes of the Chernobyl serie I was drawn to its sound universe and I started recording and creating sounds for a project inspired by this. Now a few months further this has resulted in the Fission A and B libraries. I created 200 soundsources from recordings of an old cello, a bassoon, some flutes, a few bass guitars, a piano, from my guitars, from field recordings and sounds that I created within various synths. I mangled all the sounds to create a dark atmosphere.

Superbly delivered by Parisian cellist Jean-Philippe Feiss, these textures and playable patches will give you a unique taste of some of the best modern filmscores. Harmonic Tides is an aetherial sound-designed string library crafted from delicately resonant cello and double bass string harmonics. Harmonic Tides with the specific goal of making a uniquely expressive textural sound designed instrument ideal for film scoring. His goal was to create a custom scoring tool that could be just as expressive, versatile, and nuanced as a typical orchestral string library. It’s perfect for modern arrangements and film/game scores whenever lush swells and huge waves of intense feeling are called for. Harmonic Tides has two primary sound sources. The first is a shimmering, delicate and airy texture derived from layered celli harmonic glissandi. This patch is designed to add organic movement to music. Every key is sampled with four dynamic layers. The second sound source is a sharp, hollow sound derived from layered samples of bowing the after-length of strings on a double bass between the bridge and tailpiece. This sound is designed to add subtle tension and movement to music. Both articulation sets feature a wide chromatic and dynamic range, allowing them to be played expressively live with a keyboard or other midi controller.
