‘Singing Bells’ is a beautiful set of aluminium bells recorded with both hard and soft mallets. Both presets provide a unique sound, similar to a church bell or Tibetan bowl. Create eerie and mythical melodies, or try adding the reverb and delay effects to help craft enchanting landscapes. Recorded at Temple Studio in London, we took no liberties in capturing the extraordinary sound of this instrument. Played with extreme precision by percussionist Sara Loewenthal, multiple velocities and layers were recorded in exceptional detail.
Do you want to be able to sing to the standard of a West End or Broadway star? This is a course for you if you love musical theatre and also want a robust singing course that will stretch you beyond your current vocal capabilities. As well as being focused on music theatre, this course is a bootcamp for all vocalists. We will look at the singing techniques needed to hit the high notes from the major epochs of musical theatre, including music hall and operetta, Tin Pan Alley and early jazz show tunes (Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin etc), classic Broadway music theatre (Rogers and Hammerstein, Kern, Rogers and Hart etc), 70s & 80s music theatre (Andrew Lloyd Webber, Boublil and Schönberg etc) and contemporary music theatre (Schwartz, Menken etc).
In my class my students study the vocal, which include academic bases, jazz, blues, rock and pop style All the examples and exercises are help them to control a breathe, articulation, diction, voice. They study how to make wider their vocal range. How to make their voice more stronger and louder.
A deep sampled Tibetan bowl for Kontakt 5, featuring two articulations: hits and sustains. The instrument was sampled with a multitude of dynamic layers and round robins, and packaged in an easy-to-use Kontakt instrument. This library features a deeply sampled Tibetan Singing Bowl, recorded in close stereo, and mapped across a playable range of four octaves. Two articulations were captured – sustains (created by moving the wooden mallet in a circular motion around the rim of the bowl) and hits. Both these articulations were recorded with a multitude of dynamic layers, which allows for very delicate and realistic playing. The instrument was programmed with ease of use in mind. Simply move the mod wheel while playing sustains to smoothly morph between different dynamic levels. When performing a real singing bowl, changes in dynamics are often very slow, since the bowl takes time to vibrate and resonate. Setting the ‘speed’ control to a low value will simulate this, by gradually fading between the dynamic layers.

Lari discusses the history of singing to lend some context to your journey, and then helps you understand your vocal instrument by covering major concepts and terminology. She also demonstrates physical exercises to build core strength—which can improve your singing—reviews key words having to do with sound, pitch, and melody, and shows how to use a piano to find the right key.
