We examined in microspcopic detail the characteristics of Rheem Mk VII, Farfisa Compact and Vox Continental, which were used as reference for the sound design of the Combo Sister along with some new ideas for added creative potential. The result is an instrument that is not merely a clone of a single organ model, but an original virtual instrument which captures the feeling of that fantastic retro sound and catapults that “experience” into the future. Unique to this emulation is the ability to have a mix of the Vox + Farfisasound!Thisisachieved by a combination of drawbars, timbre switches and oscillator bank selections.

Moog Source, Korg MS20, the Waldorf Microwave 1, the Waldorf Pulse 1, and – from version 4 onwards – the Roland Jupiter 6 have been accurately sampled in such a way that their charming inaccuracies are still there in this perfect Reason environment in which we took our chance to add polyphony and velocity. You´ll get 540 combinator patches containing beautiful analog sounds from the past as well as some mouth watering rex loops covering the old analog drum boxes. You decide how retro or contemporary the sounds of this ReFill will sound in your music. It all matches almost perfectly with almost everything.
The MS20, the Moog Source and the Waldorf Microwave have been carefully sampled and were put into Reason’s samplers making use of the unique alternate sample switch feature the NNXT has on board. This alt switching gives the sampled legends extra realism since no repeated note will sound exactly the same. Just like in the old days The fun part during the production of this refill really began when we started to combine samples coming from these three synths within single patches. Almost all patches have their velocity controlled counter parts to introduce the nowaday possibilities of musical and intuitive control within the realms of the old, originally more static synths.
Taron and Cecil Harding have named this refill their signature refill since the main theme of the refill has nothing to do with any particular musical style… The sounds, samples and patches are very personal expressions and can be used in almost every musical style. In spite of this we strongly believe this refill is a must-have for every composer who works in the film and TV industry.
