Welcome to my Electronic Dance Music introduction course, this course is aimed at absolute beginners who want to learn the basics of using a DAW and getting to grips with adding tracks together to mix a decent dance or electronic track! I have aimed to teach in a relaxed and straightforward manner without the need for too much industry lingo or overcomplicated nonsense, I hope that it helps with people who want to just get to work without too much perfectionism. Hopefully you guys will be able to use the materials I have put below to add to your projects, I discuss and use all of the assets I have attached, during my videos, so you will have a chance to hear how they sound, and hear my thoughts on why they are so good for mixing, and some of their strengths as samples. I do still urge you to go out and about and look for new and interesting samples, and even create some of your own however!

Drums lay at the core of every good track, providing the rhythmic energy and beating heart of the music. Making sure that those drums are solid and satisfying is therefore an essential part of producing high quality tracks. On this in-depth course, experienced producer Simon Shackleton will take you on a journey as he builds up a number of complete grooves from the ground up, explaining every decision meticulously along the way. This second part of the course moves onto 2 new genres, looking this time at Nu Disco and Electronica or Breakbeat. Like the first part, the lessons go in detail through each process of constructing the beat with a large palette of samples, beginning with a core loop or main drums like kick and snare. Individual drums are designed by layering of numerous oneshots, carefully selected and then blended, using different processing to ensure each part fits together seamlessly and adds its own unique elements into the mix.

Vocals are unlike any other instrument or sound. They’re dynamic, unique, full of organic nuances, and saturated with emotion. When they’re done right they can be the feature element that makes a hit song that tops charts. A vocal is what makes a piece of music a “song”, and not a “track”. But there’s a reason most electronic music doesn’t feature vocals. They’re time consuming and difficult to do well.

Talented and prolific producer has returned to the community to give another masterclass on an area of his expertise, namely vocal production. In this set of tutorials, he’ll take you through all the techniques involved in going from raw recordings to polished and perfectly mixed vocals, using his recent track ‘You Got Me’. Beginning with a number of suggestions for how to go about achieving a high quality recording, Jafunk then dives straight into the project, initially looking at corrective procedures for improving the timing and pitch of vocal takes, by manually editing and using the 3rd-party plugin Melodyne. He then moves onto setting levels and panning layers, to achieve a strong but pleasantly spread vocal. After all parts are sufficiently synchronised, tuned and sounding as one, he moves onto vocal enhancement, working through each of the plugins used to add the polish and professional touches that elevate the vocal in the mix. Signals are compressed and saturated, sibilance is removed and width and depth are applied with delay and reverb. Once Nick’s voice has been treated, Jafunk shows how similar processing can be applied to Dana’s voice, so that both vocalists are made to inhabit the same space and the track has a unified sound.

If you’re wanting to produce beats but clueless about where to start, this course is for you!
