Horror. Nightmares and nerve-wracking tension

Nordic Noir is a collection of dystopian, suspenseful, and dark sounds. You can easily create wonderful textures and atmospheres – precisely to evoke those dark and spooky emotions. That’s what pulsed through our minds when we were asked to write the music for two scary TV movies. We didn’t just want to compose—we wanted to unleash something. Something that breathes. That scratches. That screams. That’s new!. So we built a horror machine Our eerie board. We mounted screws, rusty springs, bent metal sheets, and long nails on a wooden board. Then we wired it with piezo pickups and ran the scratching, hammering, banging, and rubbing through a whole battalion of effects for days. The result wasn’t just sound. It was emotionally unstable electricity. The result? Far beyond our expectations: Nordic Noir is no ordinary horror or suspense kit. It’s a living, breathing soundscape of dread. It doesn’t whisper. It growls. It doesn’t follow rules. It shatters them. This isn’t just a collection of creepy textures. A unique, untamed language of tension. Growling bass that breaks your spine. Subsonic rumbles from the edge of the void. Hypnotic tension that builds until it shatters.And broken dreams? Oh yes. Lots. We could say so much more about what it does—but honestly, words don’t do it justice. You have to feel it. Hear it. Let it haunt you.

HAMMERED FOR THE WORLD OF FOLK MUSIC AS WELL AS FILM- AND GAME MUSIC. Hakkebrett is a Nordic folklore folk sample- library that shines at the top, in addition to having a punchy sounding lower- register. It’s ideal for wizardry film music, traditional and ethnic music genres.  Hakkebrett, our zither sample library, consists of two table-top zithers sampled for Kontakt. We hammered the strings with small sticks in 5 dynamics layers X 3 round robins.

Nordic Red is a marvelleous sounding ReFill based on samples from the Nord Modular G2x synthesizer. ‘Prepare yourself for a journey where your creativity can reach new levels‘ – this statement from the ‘Welcome‘ section of the G2 manual is a perfect description of what you can expect from the Nordic Red ReFill. The ability to create an unlimited range of individual sounds will not only provide you with “otherworldly“ atmospheric stuff, the deepest textures and great keys, but also with surprisingly “in-your-face“ bass patches and wonderful pads when diving into this ReFill. The “self-playing“ patches (called “Noodles“ in the G2), for example, are great starting points to create some ultra-deep atmospheric textures – an ideal entry for composing film scores or game music. Or simply pitch down the samples to listen to the “hidden magic“ inside these up to 90 seconds long ‘Noodle‘ recordings.

The piano we have chosen for this SampleSet is the Futura II, made by Nordiska Pianofabriken (Vetlanda, Sweden, in 1974). The complete SampleSet contains 713 individual 24 bit Mono WAV samples. The goal behind the Nordic Upright Piano is to capture the ring and dynamics of a good essential Swedish piano. This is a sampled piano that gives you freedom to place it in any ambient environment of your choice. The instrument was sampled in mono and the position of the close positioned microphone was changed per each octave. Then the piano was “re-built” in the digital domain by giving each string it’s own position in the stereo field. The result is a dry piano that gives you the flexibility to place it in any sonic environment you like.
