N.Peart Drums Vol. 1: The Kit features samples of the authentic Drum Workshop® Signature “Snakes and Arrows” kit of drum legend Neil Peart from the band Rush. This multitrack kit offers the ultimate high fidelity rock sound with incredible realism for keyboardists and e-Drummers. One of these drums is bigger—the 23” bass drum, which is another unique innovation of John Good’s. Back in the 70’s, when Rush were opening shows, I used to be able to go out front and listen to other drummers. I noticed then that 24” bass drums had a particular “kick” (for once the word is apt), but I preferred the playability and dynamics of a 22”. John suspected that the 23” would combine the best of both, and he was right. The “VLT” approach was also applied to the snare drum’s shell, and it was another revelation—the best I have ever played, for both response and sound. The toms are 8”, 10”, 12”, 13”, two 15”, 16”, AND 18”, with DW’s Coated Clear heads. Remo supplies some of the other heads, while the drumsticks are Pro-Mark signature models.

In the late 60′s and early 70′s, The Beatles tried to innovate the sound of drums covering the heads of the snare and toms with tea towels to damp the sound. This technique became very popular but has lost over the years. It has 6 repetitions (round robin) and 6 velocities, but the most important is that on every mic you have the real and natural bleeding of the other parts of the drum. You can hear exactly what is recorded in a real studio situation. Is like having recorded the drum yourself! Control volume, pan and tune of each mic right in the GUI. It’s exciting to play and hear it!

Angelic Zither KONTAKT

Angelic Zither is a handmade 15-string, pre-80’s zither from the Republic of Belarus (a little west of Russia). The zither’s strings are tuned diatonically in the key of G, but the samples are stretched to cover the instrument’s range chromatically. Although it only spans two octaves (stretched to 4 octaves total), this zither has a gorgeous, magical tone. Loud, resonant plucking. The release samples have three round-robins and three dynamics as well, capturing the slight buzzing sound that the string makes when muted. The scripting does everything from keeping track of each note’s independent round-robin cycle as well as matching the volume of the release samples to the volume of the sustain. This insures that the volume of the release samples is at the correct volume depending on how much the sustain has decayed. Angelic Zither has nearly 700 MB of samples and uses extensive scripting to maximize these samples as well as provide several useful controls on the interface to adjust the instrument’s tone and performance settings.
