Iron Pack #10 was created by field recording actual mating calls of a pair of rare giant GalapagosTortoises at an animal sanctuary in Texas. These natural reptilian vocalizations were captured in great detail, yielding 4 dynamic layers and an average of 8 round-robin variations, edited and programmed it all into playable “tuned percussion” and looping sustain instruments. Next, various sound design techniques were used to resonate, stretch, warp and sculpt the raw source into an array of 33 unique musical ambiences, atmospheric textures, drones and pads. The organic turtle sounds are useful for monster sfx design, while the ambiences are designed for dark soundscape creation, dramatic underscoring, layering and building inventive melodic instruments. The library also includes interface controls to shape tone and performance and custom room & fx impulse selection.

Pure continues the theme of pads, but with Pure we delve into the world of nice and pure sounds. With Pure we’ve included rhythmic loops. Pure comes with 170 non Rhythmic patches and 121 Rythmic patches. We tried the sounds of Pure and Dark with rhythms and thought they sounded really good, so we’ve included loops and we intend to expand on the loops to complement the pads. Initially both Dark and Pure will start out like Pads, around 3GB in size. The trilogy of Pads, Dark and Pure and our ongoing updates, all 3 libraries will continue to grow in size, just like Pads has now grown to around 8GB in size.

The Emperor is a reproduction of a unique Bösendorfer 290 SE Imperial Grand Piano. The owner achieved to install a very high-tech mechanism in the piano designed by Wayne Stahnke that operates the piano keys and pedals with more than 1.000 steps accuracy and is controlled by a computer system. This allowed me to capture each velocity layer of this perfect instrument with unequalled precision. By utilizing this new technology to optimize the performance of the action, we have created a product which leaves the pianist in total control of dynamic response, timbre and touch. This is the lovely sister to Dulcitone1884², a 16-year younger beauty with a slightly jinglier and more even tone which really compliments the butch woody clunk of the 1884 version. Think of dULCITONE1900² as Keira Knightly and Dulcitone1884² as Kristin Scott Thomas…..or maybe whatshisface in Twilight compared to George Clooney. Seven velocity layers of binaural recording add up to around 500mb of samples. There’s a wee video of her in action which tells you more about her than can be put into words.
