Embers is the third in the Photosynthesis line of Kontakt libraries. Embers is focused on dark, distorted cinematic sounds still planted in the ambient mindset. Heavy growling basses, distant organic instruments, wavering pads, and rhythmic synths. Inspired by artists like Sigur Ros (especially Kveikur), M83, This Will Destroy You, Hammock, Daughter, Hans Zimmer, and Jon Hopkins. Embers includes 125 Kontakt .nki instruments, and a 2.45GB library of samples in .wav format (great for the sound designers and tinkerers). It’s powered by the free Photosynthesis Engine, which allows extensive control over shaping the sounds, and is designed to make importing your own samples and creating your own instruments easy.

The fourth and final Photosynthesis Kontakt library, Realms is an extensive musical toolkit of bowed metallic sounds. Recorded with rich detail, metal groans and screeches with tones ranging from terrifying to lovely. Realms encompasses a wide selection of raw bowed metal objects, stunningly alive pads, and horrific soundscapes. Realms includes seven bowed objects with a total of 41 sound “menus,” each menu comprised of many individual recordings that can be opened and transformed individually, as well as an additional set of horror-oriented “effects menus” for music in the shadows. Alongside the bowed objects are natural pads created directly from the bowed sound sources, and processed keys/pads/rhythms/soundscapes created with external mangling.

The mixer interface allows for complete control over all the loop stems, and at the simple flick of a switch you can sync the loops to your DAW’s tempo. Flick another switch and take advantage of the ‘Input Quantize’ feature, which allows you to quantize the start of the loop to the beat, as well as sync subsequent loop start points to the initial loops current position.

French Horn & Tuba 3 Multi-microphone anechoic recording allows to capture the original timbre of the instrument, along with its radiation pattern. Our proprietary “Harmonic Alignment” yields continuous transitions across virtually infinite dynamics. Specially devised “early reflections” impulse responses add a virtual space to the anechoic sound, greatly contributing to realism (see below). The programming moves further away from conventional libraries, by exploiting physically-oriented modulation of the recorded sound. This yields the characteristic crescendo pattern of French Horns, typical brass flutter on transitions, or even the “watery” sound, knocks, breath noise, and metallic resonances from the bell and the body of the instrument, greatly contributing to realism. The result is a series of playable, very expressive virtual instruments retaining the rich, full sound of the real ones.
