Detailed and realistic-sounding drum kit instrument for Kontakt and the free Kontakt Player, featuring one of the world’s finest and most technically skilled professional musicians – Martin France! We captured not only Martin’s musical expertise, but also his exceptional collection of drums and cymbals – from a very rare 1920s snare drum to classic ride cymbals from the 1960s and 1970s. Martin performed on three core kits, each characteristic of a different era, as well as additional pieces chosen for their versatility and colour. We recorded 36 kit pieces in all, for a total of nearly 33,000 samples. Martin’s performances were recorded in a huge church with really fantastic acoustics. We have designed the instrument so that you can go from a vast roomy explosive sound to a completely dry ‘dead room’ sound in an instant, or anything in-between.

Creating a Kontakt Instrument From Scratch

Chamber Strings is a highly detailed and flexible chamber string library (6,5,3,3,1) recorded by expert recording engineer. A range of exciting and revolutionary techniques for recording longs, as well as freshly conceived scripting concepts allowed the natural dynamic movements of the musicians to be maintained, while remaining playable and intuitive. Windmill Lane is a uniquely wonderful scoring stage, used on many orchestral, film and TV projects. Utilising the dryness of the room, Light and Sound libraries feature multiple mic positions with natural air absorption. In line with the Light and Sound philosophy which celebrates maximum flexibility, the sound can be shaped more freely than with samples recorded in a more ambient environment. To recreate the natural bleed of a real recording environment, the close mics of all sections were left open and set at their natural panning and levels while recording each instrument section. The “Bleeds” mic adds a unique and realistic flavour to mockups and compositions.

Deeply sampled and featuring two microphone perspectives. the character of the instrument works well for both solo and ensemble applications, including film, classical, children’s, and pop music. With over 1800 samples, the 30-key natural range of the instrument has been chromatically sampled with up to 10 velocity layers and 3 round-robins. For your convenience, we have extended both the treble and bass range slightly beyond its natural range. You can expect a clear, bell-like treble register, with a gently-tapered, natural bass register. An additional 50 instrument sound effects and 25 instrument presets are included. Well, I probably messed around with that little toy piano a lot but I just came to realize its value when I was already an adult and found it again on my basement. It’s not perfectly tuned, it’s a worn and aged little piano, it’s got a lot of character, it makes some noise when we release some keys, and it’s beautiful. Obviously we at HeadlessBuddha Samples sampled it through some worn cassette tape but this time we wanted to capture more subtleties and details than we usually do. I think it’s our best Kontakt instrument to date and we’re very proud to present it to you.
