THE POP HARP FOR EVERYONE

We built the Autoharp from scratch. So, we have here a newly designed Autoharp with many new articulations and vast possibilities. It’s a perfect instrument to give your music a subtle highlighted shape. WHAT IS AN AUTOHARP? The Autoharp was invented at the end of the 19th century by Charles F. Zimmermann, a German immigrant in Philadelphia. It is a stringed instrument and, despite its name, the Autoharp is not a harp. In fact, this instrument is a chorded zither with 36 steel strings stretched over a soundbox. It has a series of chord bars that, when pushed down, mute all the strings other than those that form the desired chord. By doing so, you can easily play chords. It’s a perfect instrument to give your music a subtle highlighted shape.

BLUEGRASS

We used a 5-String Banjo with a 33 cm diameter mahogany body. We played and recorded the Banjo in many ways to get the typical banjo sound – each in several velocity layers and 2 Round Robin variations. As a result, we came out with a very realistic and organic Banjo.

Canjo is a homemade single-stringed fretted instrument made from a wood stick, string tuner, and a tin can. The can resonates with a twangy and metallic tone, and sounds like a cross between a banjo and mountain dulcimer. It is typically held like a guitar, but can also be played on a table or lap. The canjo is fretted diatonically with a 12 note range, making it perfect for pluckin’ folk melodies on the back porch or around a campfire. In true Soundiron fashion, we tinkered to stretch canjo’s sonic abilities to its limits, capturing fully playable picked plucks, smooth plucks, harsh plucks, slides, bowed sustains, staccatos, and spiccatos. This canjo is equally comfortable playing traditional Americana, or masquerading as a convincing brittle viola, cheap slide guitar, or melancholy erhu.
