Warm Bassy Plucks

The Gimbri is a three-stringed skin-covered bass that originated in Morocco. It is actually a lute that produces rich deep but also somewhat harsh and earthy tones through its wooden body and goat gut strings. Often compared to a bass guitar, the gimbri brings deepness into the music with its low dynamic range. The main focus was to capture different articulations of the Gimbri while keeping its organic feeling and warm sound. Traditionally played with the fingers, we recorded it muted, with a plec and through an amp to ensure a wide variety of tones. It comes with five presets, while the possibility of custom settings is kept open.

Richard Taylor sampled many analog synths and released the results into the Public Domain. bigcat instruments has started turning them into Kontakt instruments. Thanks to scripts and GUI from Mickaël Ménager, each synth will feature effects such as distortion and compression along with built in amp simulation. The first Taylor sampled synth, the Axis 80 has just been released. It has over 2500 samples and weighs in at a touch under 2 gigs compressed.

Handpan, is a magical journey in D-minor and Chromatic scales. This specific Handpan is made out of thickened nitrided steel, which gives it a softer moody and cinematic sound. It resonates in a way that can be used for rhythmic play, but also has a tail that is perfect for meditative and slow performances. It has a sound that captivates the soul. Also known as Hang or Pan Drum, the Handpan has an enchanting sound that transports you to a realm of serenity and inspiration. With a 22 inch/56 cm diameter and hand-hammered tuned, this handpan is recorded with high resolution 192kHz stereo and the aim was to capture sound of the Handpan the way you would hear it when playing it on your lap. Now available in your DAW. Handpan brings you a mesmerizing sound both in D-minor and extended chromatic scale. Pro’s of D-minor presets – the instrument’s resonances are the most natural and whole in the pan’s body. If it was tuned, then the small resonances between notes would misalign. So this is more natural and it is easy to get the hang of playing this way of playing. Pro’s of the chromatic presets – allows you to extend the instrument to any scale you wish.
