    “Ney, Arabic Flutes” brings an authentic oriental flavour to your compositions with captivating rich tones of this traditional flute. This collection of samples was recorded and produced in Cairo, and performed by traditional Egyptian musicians playing this ancestral Middle Eastern instrument. At the heart of this collection lies the interplay between sound and psyche as a fundamental theme. After all, it is conscious thought that discerns music from the world’s cacophony and this very premise is that which Morpheme derives significance from. Each sample, each unit of sound – especially when articulated together as one body – holds harmonic meaning. Bass, drums and melodic atmospheres in unison mirror the mind; its different aspects of consciousness distinguished by as little as variance in musical arrangement.

    The Xiao is a ancient traditional Chinese, end-blown bamboo flute, also known as the dòngxiao. We have sampled this instrument with true legato intervals all the way up to the octave, and, like the bansuri, have artificially filled in the notes which actually are not possible to play on the instrument physically. With our instrument, you can play it in any key, as you would any other VST instrument on the keyboard, without worrying about which notes are possible etc.  There are multiple keyswitches, arranged so you can choose the first note of a phrase, and alter the experssion of notes throughout a phrase as you play, allowing for an extremely human like sound. The expression wheel also controls dynamics.

There are two types: the straight shape and that with a curved headpiece. A straight-headed model was used for the recordings. The alto flute has a full, warm sound suggesting mystery especially in the lower range.

We present here the gorgeous sound of Stefania Maratti, an experienced flutist who plays her lovely pink-gold flute with lots of heart. Her instrument has lots of character, and it fits beautifully both in solo work and in orchestral contexts.
