Long ago, spurred by the lack of high-quality jazz drum samples, we recorded a jazz/funk drumset. It’s a relatively small kit–a kick, snare, two toms, and two cymbals–just like something a jazz drummer would play at a gig or low-key recording session. Skilled jazz drummers can make a single drum or cymbal sound very expressive, evoking a lot of character and personality with each hit. That was our exact approach when sampling this drumset, concentrating on fewer but higher quality kit pieces. The drum library features unique and rare drums, and cymbals and has an excellent tone suitable for jazz and funk.

Our bespoke SACS engine (S. Articulation Control System) is a labour of love that we’re immensely proud of and will quickly become second nature to use. It’s simple, logical and utterly playable. We’ve grouped the many many articulations into six logical categories, then sub-divided those. All the woodwinds instruments use the same system – and our future orchestral sections will do too. The drums have tons of rattle and buzz, and lots of character. We made sure to include an adjustable amount of preroll in the samples–that way you can capture the sound of the beater moving before it hits the kick drum, the squeak of the hihat while it closes, and the overall sound of the sticks moving through the air. All these subtle elements multiply to add extra believability to the instrument.
