This is why we set out to produce Everything But Sticks, a collection of loops and samples that take a new and fresh approach to grooves on the drum set. By using a wide variety of brushes, mallets, bundles, kitchen utensils and even our bare hands, we were able to pull out an entire range of timbres and dynamics from the drum kit that sticks simply can’t produce. For fans of our Cinematic and Art of Brushes collections, Everything But Sticks will be a welcome addition to your arsenal of loops and samples. In our constant pursuit to push the sonic and rhythmic boundaries of loops, we’re excited to announce the release of Everything But Sticks Vol 2. As the name suggests, this collection of grooves and samples was recorded using everything BUT drumsticks, utilizing items like mallets, brushes, spatulas, rods and yes, even goat hooves, resulting in a truly organic and unique soundscape of rhythm. Chords! I’d say more often than not, I usually start my ideas by playing melodies and chords. Some people like to start with drums, others don’t. Easily plug these chord progressions into a drum loop, or start with these melodies and create a drum loop around them. There is no right or wrong way to approach things when it comes to making beats. I wanted to create a collection of chord progressions that would serve to instantly inspire you to start building a track. Whether it’s hardcore hip-hop, R&B, soul, or Pop music, this collection is sure to get your creative juices flowing. The best part is, I’ve included ALL of the MIDI data, so the sky is the limit. Here, I’ve created a set of drum breaks for my fellow producers to loop, chop, eq, layer, hack & draw inspiration from, as I do. All 21 drum break loops are played by me, using a combination of live drum sets, transient effects & hardcore audio design & sound manipulation to deliver true punch, grit & vinyl dirt.
