Nordsund II continues the legacy begun with original Nordsund, delivering the highest quality synth sounds, inspired by the music for the Nordic Noir film and television genre. Where Nordsund Blood and Gold featured a number of patches designed for season four of the Nordic Noir smash hit, The Bridge, Dusk and Snow have been designed from scratch for this release, building on and advancing the original ideas. Nordsund Dusk is all about the sound of night falling. The darkness providing cover for the secrets lurking in suburbia, criminals and their prey leaving the safety of their homes, downbeat detectives processing witnesses and suspects. Collection of 300 patches for u-he Zebra2 and ZebraHZ. Nordsund is designed to capture the atmosphere and the darkness of Nordic Noir. The patches were created during bespoke sound design sessions I was doing for the fourth season of Swedish/Danish detective drama, The Bridge. Brooding detectives, cold nights, complex murders, achingly beautiful scenery and sophisticated urban design: Nordsund reflects the sonic landscape of one of the most cutting edge and thrilling European TV series. Grinding basses, industrial textures, silky pads, unstable sequences, tense percussion; Nordsund blends uneasy, moody analogue with dark, taut organic vibes for an authentic slice of melancholy Scandinavian tones. There are a number of time signatures represented in the basslines, synth sequences and drumloops to allow you to build up suspenseful, syncopated tracks. Plus, as always, care has been taken to provide extra dynamic tonal control via the modwheel and the X/Y pads.

Unique timewarped Optigan / String Synth hybrid!

Possibly our gnarliest, grungiest instrument yet, Platter is a kind of bastardised string synth hybrid, taking as its starting point a variety of synth waveforms but reimagining them as built into a vinyl-based replay machine. If a Solina and an Optigan were abandoned in an attic for fifty years and had babies, this is what they might sound like… The core premise is quite a simple one: we took a variety of synth waveforms, but with a hefty bias towards the string-synth end of the spectrum, and had them pressed to custom dubplates by our local vinyl workshop. We deliberately didn’t go down the standard route of saw, sine, square for this one; instead, there are a couple of “synth staples” but also a batch of more orchestrally-themed sounds taken from old string synths and other more complex instruments. So instead of choosing “Pulse” or “Saw”, you’ve got things like “Symphonic”, “Baroque”, “Choral” and “Elegiac”. Not sure what that’s going to sound like? Try it and see
