Heavyweight Dub & Reggae solidly begins with the heavy Dub foundation created by the legendary King Tubby in the 1970s where the control room, mixer and equipment become another instrument and a means to create fresh new sounds for the dance. Heavyweight Dub & Reggae takes this concept and brings into modern day Soundsystem culture; EDM, Electronic and almost any genre of music looking for add depth and weight to their overall sound! At a massive 2.4GB, Heavyweight Dub and Reggae features Loops, One Hits, and Sampler Patches with a Dub-laden feel featuring Live Instruments, Drums, Keys, Vocals, FX and of course the all-important low end Bass frequencies! The Casio MT40 looks like a typical 80s home keyboard, however it has a remarkable history. It was used to create a song called Under Mi Sleng Teng… which kicked off the digital Dancehall revolution. The rock drum preset and bass accompaniment are unmistakable and have been used numerous times since. The MT40 drums are lofi but surprisingly punchy. The Bass is warm and fuzzy and very distinctive. The keyboard instruments are based on 2 mixed variable pulse square waves, with digital envelopes and a low pass filter. I have given this famous little keyboard the treatment. Using a studio full of tasty analog hardware to sample all the drum sounds as single drum hits and loops ( Rex, Apple and Wav). I have also sampled the bass sound with 4 different signal chains and lastly I multi-sampled 16 of the keyboard tones.
In the early 1990’s Flinty Badman & Deman Rockers aka the Ragga Twins could be found ripping up the reggae dance floor on sound systems from around the NE London area, but it was on Unity sound that they made their name, playing all over England with a sound system which led to them being the hailed “the Kings of the Dancehall” in England, by some of the top Jamaican systems who claimed they could not compete with the versatility of this awesome duo. Since then the Ragga Twins have continued to work with some of the biggest names and labels in the industry such as Shut Up and Dance, Shabba Ranks, Aquasky, Deekline and many, many more.
