This kit was tuned medium-high and recorded with sticks and brushes. The collection comes with a set of Istanbul cymbals – including a beautiful 24″ ride – plus a 1930s Round Badge Gretsch snare drum, offering a low and fat alternative to the Camco kit snare.

BFD JEX is an expansion for BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2 featuring a high-end, custom hand-made kit from XDrum’s Xotica line. The included drums possess 6-ply Keller Maple shells with an additional ply of Sapeli Pommele running vertically resulting in focused low-end. The finish is hand-applied tung oil which offers a very open tone. The package also includes a bonus Ludwig snare taken from BFD Jazz & Funk Collection. BFD JEX is recorded in the same room and studio conditions as the BFD Jazz & Funk and BFD Percussion expansions as well as those used for the Mapleworks kits in BFD3.

Centred around a kit with 2 kicks and 3 toms full of classic maple warmth and sustain, BFD Jazz Maple also includes a bonus reduced-detail snare (taken from BFD Signature Snares Vol.1) and Sabian cymbals (from BFD Jazz & Funk Collection) which are recorded in similar studio conditions. Although the included kit’s tone is particularly suited to jazz, fusion and funk, it’s great for any other musical styles that need expressive and great-sounding drums. The sounds feature diverse mic channel sets and beater types for versatility. The medium-sized recording room used on BFD Imperial Drums allows naturally warm ambience and direct mic signals with superb isolation. Many included instruments provide alternative ambient and direct mic sets for increased variety. Finally, 13 stick and beater types including hot-rods, webs, rutes and jazz brushes were used to play the instruments. The included drums, cymbals and hihats are expertly set up and tuned by experienced session drummer Elio Rivagli. With over 150 loadable instruments in total, BFD Imperial Drums’ sounds are suitable for all genres of music that demand powerful, musical-sounding drums.

The Black Album Drums For BFD3

The Black Album Drums is a drum library for BFD3 and Kontakt 5.5 (full version) inspired by the drum sound featured on the “Black Album” by Metallica from 1991: it features the kit played on that record, not just the same model, that exact kit (a 1980 Gretsch with Zildjian cymbals and a Tama Bell Brass snare), 2 snares (we added an extra Ludwig 1970s vintage Black Beauty), dual kicks (L&R), 5 toms, 4 crashes, 1 china and an additional ride cymbal. We approached the production of this library with an enormous amount of respect and love for the sound we wanted to capture: one of the signature sounds of the history of Rock and Metal music. To this extent, we were lucky to track down a large number of information and material regarding the sessions we were inspired by.
