Sphere Studios is one of London’s finest with a long-standing reputation amongst industry professionals.The session was engineered by studio owner Francesco Cameli who has worked with an extensive client list that includes the likes of Queen, Phil Collins, West Life, Gary Moore, Bullet For My Valentine, New Model Army and TesseracT. Martin Oldham (clients including Maroon 5, Keane, Elton John, Killing Joke and Razorlight) was also on hand as drum tech for the session. Together they ensured that the drums were set up to be enriched by the outstanding acoustics of Sphere’s live room. This combination of precision and expertise added enlivening levels of depth and detail to the samples in a strive to create a clear and unique overall sound.

Programmed to drop into any EDM song with just the touch of a key (seriously – the whole demo is just holding C for 4 bars!), the Club Arpeggiators & Sequences soundbank packs 50 ready to go patches. Genre’s range from 90′s House to Moombahton (and everything in between) but a theme throughout is fast pace gated, arpeggiated, and gliding sounds. Great sounds right out of the box All demo tracks are played using one instance of Massive with a 4/4 kick and snare added for effect. Sounds were all generated by holding C for 4 bars, no DAW automation or external effects were used. Although the soundbank has fully programmed macro controls, none were touched in the demo to show the soundbank’s complexity. Macro Controls In addition to typical effects and cutoff macros, the Arp & Seq soundbank adjustments include pitch, sidechain, gate shape, and on/off knobs for multitrack patches. The macros are programmed to allow real time manipulation and sound tweaking for builds and drops.

Glass Beach, about 150 miles outside San Francisco, CA, is all that’s left of a former garbage dump. For decades, the townspeople brought their household and industrial trash to the sea, dumping into towering piles rising above the surf. We spoke to a lifelong resident, who told us the heaps grew to over 30 feet high, before “The Dumps” were finally shut down in 1967. After numerous clean-up efforts, all of the refuse was removed, save for the tons of broken glass shards that were too small and far to plentiful to remove. It can now be found in MacKerricher State Park, running along the beach, by an old abandoned saw mill complex.
