The Studio Acoustic Guitar is a CD-ROM for the Emulator III/X/ESI/E4, and features 40 banks of instrumentation. We wanted to produce a CD-ROM that would give the feel of a real acoustic guitar with all the strumming techniqes. The result is the The Studio Acoustic Guitar, a stunning re-creation of the instrument which includes over 900 chords which includes all the open tunings as well. Each chord is played in four different strikes with various positions on the fretboard. The guitar itself is a Martin D-28 with nickel wound strings. The Studio Acoustic Guitar contains 40 banks. Over 1,200 presets give you an amazing variety of performance options. Each chord has a variation of a slow picked downstroke arpeggio, finger pull, short picked upstroke, short picked downstroke and chord mute. In addition, we have included single notes picked and fingered with harmonics and all the finger noises.
Simple and powerful – why isn’t it in my DAW by default ? All I needed was a high pass, followed by a low pass, a bit of drive and a mix control, but could I find it in one plugin ? NO. So now its grown up and gained a few more tweaks here and there including an additional more aggressive filter mode, and the ability to adjust the distortion contour. It’s still simple, but its even more lovely now …
VCA offer a toolkit for controlling the track level, it can work as a simple Voltage Controlled Amplifier using a control signal in it’s sidechain input. Starting from there you can add functionality like an envelope follower on the control signal, with attack and release ranging from 1ms to 3000ms or an RMS module. The VCA acts only if the control signal is above the set threshold that goes from -80dB to 0dB, above this threshold positive or negative gain, which can be scaled by a specific control, is applied. You can also transform VCA in a complete compressor or expander using its input or its output as control signal for feedback or feedforward compression/expansion.
