Wind chimes can be incredibly useful for colouring an ambience with subtle harmonics – I used them to great emotional effect as a nostalgic/memory device in the war film Home by Christmas. But they are also incredibly rewarding as source material for creating ambient textures and drones via processing. Bell trees and mark trees have been used over the years for many forms of ‘magical’ sounds, but their rich harmonic content does not limit their application to Disney impressions. Recorded at 192kHz using four microphones with extended high frequency response (Sennheiser MKH800, MKH8050 and a pair of MKH8020s) this library contains a wealth of rich harmonic material, including eleven different wind chimes, ten percussion instruments (bell trees, mark trees, chime bars, glockenspeils) and four sets of bells (including some classic sleigh bells for any Christmas applications!)

This library was created by recording sound created by heat transfer in many, many different forms. Whether it was cooking and burning various food types, turning water and ice into vapour, rapidly cooling very hot metals or physically manipulating objects on dry ice, this is a sound library with a very diverse and unusual range of tonalities. Some of the extreme heat sounds lend themselves to very interesting weapons design amongst other things, while the dry ice material is a goldmine of unique metallic tones, textures, shrieks and creaks – perfect for use in intensely creative sound effects design.

If you’ve ever had to sync waves to picture then you will appreciate the need for a collection of cleanly recorded waves of various scales; from gentle idyllic waterlaps to more turbulent surf. Each location in this new library was recorded to six tracks, capturing a narrow & coherent stereo image with a Sanken CSS5 microphone, a dynamic & exciting pointillistic image using a pair of Sennheiser MKH70s, and a more diffuse, brighter image using a pair of omni-directional DPA 4060 microphones. Each ambience in the library contains a minimum of three minutes duration for each of the three sets of stereo mics, in all fourteen beach locations, along with a photo to clearly identify the setting, and GPS coordinates incase you’d like to visit on Google Earth. This library aims to provide sound editors with the ability to easily choose which location and recording/s best match the perspective and point of view of your footage.
