For DOPESICK we wanted to create a blend of organic cinematic, sci-fi and modern electronic sound design for the creation of percussive impacts and rhythmic sonic cues for film scores, hi energy movie trailers, IDM, Futuristic Hip-Hop and different forms of electronic music that require sophisticated sound design at its best. DOPESICK feataures a vast array of timbres with a high degree of playability and musicality: raw hits, heavy alien impacts, cinematic/electronic hits, stingers and sequences, one-shots tones, trailer kits plus a bonus folder for a total of 270 samples in 96/24 HD resolution with embedded SoundMiner metadata, 25 hybrid drum loops and one Ableton Rack.
The Marimba is a 52 note, 10,221 sample, 6.2 GB (3.2 compressed) virtual Instrument, playable in the full version of Kontakt 4.2.2 and above The phase alignment of the audio was essential to the sound to ensure a focused tone, this had to be done for each note. The end result represents a forensic, audiophile yet characterful recreation of a world class instrument. Please Note: The full version of Kontakt 4.2.2 or above is required. Not for Kontakt Player.
The second product of the ongoing and very fruitful collaboration with MagicDeathEye is a faithful emulation of their stereo master buss compressor & equalizer. From the description of the hardware: “The stereo compressor is two mono compressor circuits with some extras designed for mastering and buss compression duties. This new version has an added EQ section. There are two (boost only) bands with two frequency selections each. The EQ is worked into the Variable Mu tube gain structure. This means it is not before or after the compression section, it is within it. The EQ circuit is inductor based and has wide curves for giving program material that “little something”. There is also a two frequency low cut for tightening up out of control bass. The boost of the bands can be 5dB or 3dB split between 5 steps. I spent a lot of time shaping this EQ mastering everyday and fine tuning the components on the weekends. It sounds absolutely fabulous.”
I really tried to challenge my creative ability and tried some other worldly sound design techniques. Techniques such as playing the loops back on a speaker in my bathroom and re recording the ambience at the bottom of the stairs. Stretching Sound to oblivion and resampling the degraded audio and building chord progressions from these never before heard sounds! Every sounds ran through a small collection analog equipment I own along with a few plugins. Occasionally the sounds were ran through an old guitar amp my parents got me for the noisy circuit its has and blended back with the clean sound for added texture. All files have been orgaznied into 2 folders called “DARK ENERGY”, and VIBEY. Choose your adventure wisely…
