Toxic is a 6-operator-FM synthesizer of highest quality, with alias-free oscillators, warm filters and precise envelopes. All controls are interpolated, allowing to tweak all parameters smoothly in realtime without clicks. A powerful effects section with an Equalizer, a Distortion unit and two Chorus, Flanger and Delay units completes this excellent generator. The Toxic interface was very carefully designed- despite having many parameters, Toxic features are a very streamlined GUI, allowing rapid access to all relevant parameters – no hidden pages or endless searching for a specific parameter. Producers who do not like to program their own sounds from scratch will be happy to see that the Toxic comes with 10 banks full of excellent, ready-to-use presets.

The Solovox, manufactured by Hammond between 1940 and 1950, was another classic instrument of the era. Based on the Novachord’s oscillator and divider circuits, the Solovox with its 18 vacuum tubes was a small monophonic keyboard instrument attached beneath a piano keyboard and intended to augment it with organ-type lead voices. It consisted of two units: the three-octave mini keyboard, and a tone cabinet for the electronic sound generator, amplifier, and loudspeaker. Like the Clavioline and Ondioline, the Solovox produced a range of string, woodwind, and organ sounds and was widely used in light music from the 1940s and into the 1960s. Unfortunately, the introduction of compact transistor organs released in the 60s marked the end of the Solovox’s popularity.

We answered that question using a mock-up by our friend AlphaDog and adding some more stuff like patch cables and polyphony, and it turned out to be a very different beast indeed. While ABL Pro has it’s roots in sequenced synth sounds it also excels at pads and leads and is something of a hidden gem for many producers. We guarantee you nothing else sounds quite like ABL Pro. The filter is based in the 202 filter which sports self oscillating resonance, accurate tuning and a great range (from sub bass to above upper hearing limit). This filter can howl! Most modules send or accept control voltage (CV) which means the signal path can be modified in real time without any glitches in the audio.
